Football World Loses A Legend

The Essendon District Football League sadly acknowledges the recent passing of a football legend Barry "Baza" Nolan.

Before moving into the EDFL, Barry played with Brunswick Football Club in the VFA winning three premierships and was in 1978 a joint winner of the prestigious J.J Liston Trophy.

Barry was a talented boxer becoming a Golden Gloves Champion.

Barry joined the Craigieburn Football Club in the 1980s as captain and coach and also helped the club as interim coach in the 2000s.

He regularly took the players through boxing drills over the years well into Barry’s sixties.

He was awarded life membership of the club in 2008 and is embraced as a legend of the club.

Barry also coached Jacana Football Club and West Coburg Football Club and is highly respected at both clubs.

Barry also played at and coached some country and regional clubs including the Wallan Football Club.

Barry was universally respected as a tough but fair player and admired as a quiet dedicated coach of men.

Sincere condolences to his children Natalie and Daniel and families.

May he rest in peace.
