Terira Fry Voted Fernwood Fitness Player of the Month

Presented by Fernwood Fitness

Greenvale’s Terira Fry has been voted the Fernwood Fitness Women's Player of the Month for June, after a series of impressive displays in the green and black.

Fry claimed 48 per cent of the online vote and was a stand out player in a tough month for the women of Section Road.

In June’s three games, Fry’s leadership, tackling, and marking ability once again made her the first name named picked in head coach Troy Newton’s side.

Featuring in eight games this season and named in the best and impressive seven times, the Greenvale gun has been at her best as the Jets look to battle up the ladder in the closing rounds of the season.

Reacting to the news, Newton reaffirmed how deserving Fry was of the recognition.

“If I was building an EDFL team from scratch, she’s the first person I’d pick," Newton said.

“Terira is one of our captains and she’s just a natural leader. She's just one of those people that just sees everybody the same and encourages everybody to get the best out of them.”

On her season so far Newton added, “She rarely has a bad game – she’s just super consistent. Terira’s tackling and attack on the ball is ferocious, and she’s actually quite a good mark for somebody of her size. And she’s coachable and always seeks feedback which is exactly what you want as a coach."

As part of the award, Fry wins a customised training plan and a month’s free membership to Fernwood Fitness.

Speaking after receiving the award, Fry said, “It’s very exciting. It was pretty unexpected to be nominated to be honest.

"Some of the girls I was up against are amazing. I’ve played against the likes of Krissy and Emily, and I know how good they are. I feel honoured to have won.

"I think I’m going really well. I try to bring energy and place a lot of focus on what I can bring to the girls, how I can support them and best bring the vibe. And I guess the vibe is showing in how I play.

“I’ve always been a physical player for my size and I love a fair, but rough tackle. A few games I’ve been to a few a few ruck taps and they’ve not been too bad,” she said laughing as she reacted to her coach’s comments.

“For the rest of the season we’re looking to enjoy the challenge. We’re looking to keep making it hard for the teams we play against, show up for each other, and keep bringing the vibes.”
