Strathmore Community Bank Men's Weekend Outlook - Round 7

By Adam Russell

With a cluster of sides jostling for position in the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division top four, there are a few big games to be played this weekend.

At the conclusion of the 2019 season, Avondale Heights sat ninth on the ladder with four wins.

After six rounds of football in 2021 Patrick Byrne's side has already matched that total and are looking for more.

They'll take on Essendon Doutta Stars at Nipper Jordan Oval on Saturday.

The tall trio of Tom Russell, Aaron Gundry and Sean Bolger at the Heights has been stretching sides all season.

With the likes of the Matt Cravino and the Robb twins nipping at their feet it makes Avondale a dangerous prospect for any team.

As for Douttas, they have battled for much of this season and with a significant list of outs it doesn't get any easier for the Stars.

Paul Barnard has been without Jordan Schroder, Billy Cootee, Alex Boyse, Gavin Urquhart, Mitch Day and Marcus Calvarasi for much of the season, all who would make Douttas a more formidable side.

Pascoe Vale will face its biggest test in a number of weeks when Digby Morrell's Panthers travel to Lebanon Reserve.

Strathmore is the form side of the competition right now, with five wins on the trot and no sign of slowing down.

After competitive efforts against Aberfeldie and Keilor earlier in the season, Pascoe Vale are in need of a scalp and to take down Strathmore is as big as it gets.

The forward line will have to be humming with the division's leading goal kicker, Matthew Watson, and team mate Brad Inglis leading the way.

At Monk Oval, Maribyrnong Park face Greenvale with both sides sitting on a 3-3 ledger.

The Jets have been rock solid at the back this season, keeping Strathmore to its lowest score of the year despite going down by 31 points.

Darren Bewick's team will have to find the right mix of attack and defence in this one, with Marby looking to bounce back from an underwhelming performance against Keilor.

Aberfeldie will be hopeful of make it back-to-back wins when they take on Glenroy at Sewell Reserve.

After an inaccurate game last weekend, the Roys will have to make the most of every opportunity they get against Adam Potter's sturdy line-up.

And it doesn't get any easier for Craigieburn when they host Keilor at DS Aitken Reserve.

There is plenty of raw talent in this Eagles' squad but weight of numbers says the Blues win this one comfortably.

In Strathmore Community Bank Division One, Westmeadows and Roxburgh Park will go into their clash both undermanned.

The Tigers lacked their usual spread of goal kickers last week and sorely missed Robbie Castello.

The reigning Hutchinson Medallist was the leading goal scorer for Mo Kaakour, but the likes of Mitch Church and Omar Saad are more than capable of pulling their weight.

The Magpies are in a rut of their own, lacking the fire power Raaf Rachrache provided earlier in the year.

Combine that with the unavailability of Jack Omogrosso, Michael and Hayden Farrelly, Ben Stone, Brad Dimech and Jamie Grant, the Pies are facing an uphill battle at the moment.

Rupertswood claimed an invaluable win last week but will face the tough task of taking on West Coburg this round.

Lynden Dunn is coming off his best game of the season after kicking six against Westmeadows.

Rupo have shown plenty of heart so far this year and will have to dig deep to go toe-to-toe with the Burgers.

Hillside has gotten its season back on track with back-to-back wins the past fortnight.

They'll need all the momentum they can get as Tullamarine aims to put a stop to their winning ways.

Both teams have proven to pack plenty of punch up forward this year so don't be surprised if this game turns into a bit of a shootout.

Hisham Kerbatieh hasn't missed a beat at his new home at Shark Park and is combining well with young forward Bailey Ryan.

While for Tullamarine Cooper Perry has been a bit of a surprise packet after his transfer from East Keilor.

The Demons possess one of the divisions best midfields though so if Dave Connell's side gets the upper hand through the middle it could be danger signs for Charlie Denaro.

Airport West are clinging to their spot inside the top four but a big win against the Sunbury Kangaroos would help solidify their position and at Lionheart Reserve its top versus bottom when East Keilor play Taylors Lakes.

Finally, in Strathmore Community Bank Division Two the Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day van is heading to Martin Reserve for Hadfield's clash with Burnside Heights.

In a battle of third versus fourth, both these sides will be striving to make a statement as contenders in this division.

Burnside Heights are looking good with a band of star players back and firing for the Bears.

Although, Aiden Stott's backline will have their hands full though trying to quell the influence of inform forward Mark Sabatino.

The Hawks' forward is now the division's leading goal kicker after big bags against Jacana and Oak Park.

Elsewhere, Coburg Districts and East Sunbury will play off as both teams try to secure their third win for the year.

The Districts have had a rocky start to the season but a big win at home would definitely straighten up their 2021 campaign.

Jacana were kept scoreless last week but defensively were better, conceding their lowest score for the season.

Glenn McIntyre's side will have to keep finding those little wins when they travel to Keilor Park on Saturday.

Lastly, the Northern Saints face a tough challenge when they host Oak Park at Charles Mutton Reserve.

The Kangaroos have been challenged the past few weeks so if the Saints come to play they may be a chance on the weekend.
