Strathmore Community Bank Men's Weekend Outlook - Round 2

By Adam Russell

SECTION Road is set to host a second blockbuster fixture in as many weeks as premiership fancy Keilor travels to Greenvale.

Mick McGuane's men got their campaign off to the perfect start on Good Friday with a runaway win over Strathmore.

There will be plenty of headaches for the Jets as they attempt to stop two of the division's best midfielders in Kane Barbuto and Nick O'Kearney.

Barbuto's influence in Round 1 was kept limited, however O'Kearney was left to run rampant at Joe Brown Oval and will appreciate the wide open spaces of Section Road.

As for Greenvale, there were plenty of positives for new coach Darren Bewick despite their Round 1 loss.

New-recruit Tyson Young was among the bests last Saturday and should relish the opportunity at one of Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division's top clubs.

Keep an eye out for EDFL Teams on Friday after Bewick indicated a few big ins may return on the weekend.

Glenroy will feel a bit unlucky after their narrow loss to Maribyrnong Park, however after putting on 92 points at Sewell Reserve last week, the Roys proved they have plenty of firepower up forward.

Their contest with Essendon Doutta Stars shapes up as one of the more intriguing games of the round.

Pascoe Vale snuck over the line against Avondale Heights last week and will face a difficult task when they play host to Aberfeldie at Raeburn Reserve.

Ruckman Michael Sikora was one of the better Panthers last week and will enter a crucial battle with Aberfeldie big man Nick Meese.

Meese made a strong debut for Abers, taking out this week's iFLY mark of the week.

Elsewhere, local rivals Maribyrnong Park and Avondale Heights will go head-to-head in the battle of Maribyrnong river, while Strathmore will be looking for redemption after a Good Friday loss when they take on Craigieburn.

In Strathmore Community Bank Division 1, Airport West and Tullamarine face-off for the first time since their memorable 2018 grand final.

A lot has changed since that fateful day, but what hasn't changed is that these two teams are top contenders in the division once again.

Dean Limbach may find himself with a hostile welcome at Hansen Reserve given the power forward transferred across to the Demons after signing for the Eagles for the 2020 season.

Limbach is the type of figure that can let his football do the talking after kicking three goals for Tullamarine in its win last week.

The clash at Lionheart Reserve between Taylors Lakes and Sunbury Kangaroos may be a pivotal one come season's end, with both teams suffering loses in Round 1.

The Lions will be without gun forward Patrick Rose after the spearhead received a one-week suspension at the tribunal.

West Coburg are looking to bounce back at home when Roxburgh Park travel to Shore Reserve on Saturday.

The Magpies struggled on the road in 2019 but a few handy recruits has Michael Farrelly's side buzzing.

Headline signing Ben Johnson was in the team's bests last week while Matt Patane got amongst the goal kickers with two.

East Keilor takes its star-studded line-up to Hillside this Saturday and Westmeadows travels to Rupertswood with both sides needing a win.

Our Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day is set to be a big one as the broadcast van heads to Cole Reserve for the clash between Coburg Districts and Moonee Valley.

Don't expect Coburg Districts to come out licking their wounds after its Good Friday loss, the Lions will be hard at the contest and will take the game up to the Fog.

Districts' playing-coach Tom Gleeson was almost a lone standout from Round 1, slotting five goals, and will be looking to rally his team for a more competitive effort this week.

The Fog will be hard to beat, though, coming off a demolition win over Burnside Heights under lights last week as Shanon Carroll's team looks to establish its premiership favouritism.

New additions, Bevan Newell and Billy Hansen, were among Moonee Valley's best after a big recruiting haul over the off-season, while 2019 Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 best-and-fairest Cory McGrath is still at his clinical best.

You'll be able to catch all the action from 2pm on Cluch TV or 98.9 North West FM for this one.

After its emphatic win last week, Oak Park takes on a Burnside Heights team desperate for redemption.

Both these sides are set to be top contenders in 2021 and should put on an epic contest at JP Fawkner Reserve.

East Sunbury will host a plucky Keilor Park team that was one of the bigger stories to come out of Round 1.

The Devils secured their first win in 1364 days on Good Friday and will be hungry for another.

And finally, a classic local rivalry will take place as Hadfield make the short trip across Sydney Road to face the Northern Saints at Charles Mutton Reserve.

After sitting out with the bye last week, the Saints will be chomping at the bit to get back out on the playing field.
