Season Preview 2021 - Maribyrnong Park

#RoadTo2021

2019 RECAP

After being touted as a relegation risk in the lead-up to Season 2019, Maribyrnong Park managed to rise above those expectations and produce a decent 7-11 record.

A 12-point win over Greenvale in Round 11 was a major highlight for the Lions, while two close losses to eventual preliminary finalist Strathmore showed just how much promise the Lions have for the future.

While the departure of 2018 Reynolds Medalist Will Martiniello left a void in midfield, Marby's solid structure in key positions at both ends of the ground held them in good stead, with defender Scott Clarke selected by the coaches at full back in the Premier Division Team of the Year alongside James Breust, who won't be with Marby in 2021, named at half forward.

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

A lot has changed at Monk Oval since the end of 2019, with new coach Brad Swain leading what is going to be a very different looking line-up this season.

The departures of John McKenzie, James Breust and Jock Cornell are going to hurt, but the Lions will be able to sprinkle in some fresh talent come Round 1 at Glenroy, including the returning Prowse brothers and Panayioti Kokkinakis, all of whom add vital structure to the side.

Marby will be hoping to improve on its seven wins from 2019 and fight for that final top four spot, presuming the 'big three' stay at the top of the ladder.
