MATCH CENTRE

Avondale Heights has claimed a major scalp with a thrilling 26-point road win over ladder leaders West Coburg.

The Heights trailed the home side at every break in play, and were down by thirteen points heading into the last quarter.

In emphatic fashion, six unanswered goals in the final quarter from the Heights overpowered a tiring West Coburg.

They’ve now leapfrogged their opponents to sit in second position on the ladder, meanwhile the Burgers have fallen down to third after Oak Park also claimed victory over the weekend.

It’s the Heights' second win over the Burgers this season, with the first coming back in Round 1.

Colm Brennan produced another scintillating performance for Avondale, with Makuei Andrew and Nathan Foster also contributing with three goals each.

Irrespective of the loss, it was business as usual for Dinny Clearly and Tom Baravi. Both were strong performers on the day for West Coburg.

Next week, Avondale will look to go on with their winning ways when they host Oak Park in a blockbuster clash at Canning Reserve.

Meanwhile it gets no easier for West Coburg as they travel to Hillside Reserve to take on the Sharks.

OAK PARK 12.8 (80) def. HILLSIDE 7.12 (54)
MATCH CENTRE

Oak Park has cruised to a 26-point victory against Hillside.

In what was a highly anticipated matchup, it was the Kangaroos who came out on top.

They led from start to finish and never looked like losing as they sent the Sharks sinking to fifth position on the ladder.

The Kangaroos had a commanding 39-point lead heading into the final term, and despite a flurry of late goals from their opponents, were too good in the end.

As anticipated, Josh Hotchkin was instrumental for the Roos. He produced a superb ruck performance that set the tone early and was pivotal in the win.

Rory MacGregor’s influence around the ground was also exceptional, with his sensational individual performance recognised as the best for the Kangaroos.

On the other end of the ledger, Hillside will be disappointed as they’ve now lost two in a row.

The Sharks looked flat and were a fair way off the pace and level required to compete with one of the competition’s best.

Despite the loss, a key highlight from the performance is their youth.

Jackson McMenamin, Noah Asciak, and Khalil Kaakour were all among the Sharks' best in what was a disappointing day in the end.

Oak Park will look to make another statement next week when they travel to Canning Reserve to take on a flying Avondale Heights.

Meanwhile, Hillside will go to war again when they host what will be a hungry West Coburg

MOONEE VALLEY 7.15 (57) def. TULLAMARINE 7.11 (53)
MATCH CENTRE

Moonee Valley has won its third game in a row with a thrilling four-point victory over a gallant Tullamarine.

The Fog are flying.

Their last five weeks of footy have been sensational, producing four wins and just the one loss.

The Valley now sit outside of the top five only on percentage, and have placed themselves in strong contention for a finals birth should they continue to play a similar brand of footy.

They jumped out to a three-goal lead at quarter-time, but perhaps should have led by more had they kicked they straight.

They had nine scoring shots to three in the first term, but could only muster a slender three-goal lead.

It was a back-and-forth game for the rest of the afternoon, with Tullamarine actually outscoring Moonee Valley for the rest of the match.

The Fog took a 19-point lead into the final quarter, and just held on from a fast finishing Dees outfit to claim their third victory on the bounce.

Callum Clinnick proved that he was one of the best recruits of the offseason with another clinical performance, meanwhile young gun Zayas Leonedas hit the scoreboard again with another two goals.

The 20-year-old has kicked seven goals in the last three weeks and is certainly enjoying his time back at Ormond Park.

On the other side, Tullamarine perhaps let this one get away.

After initially being jumped in the first quarter, they went on to outscore Moonee Valley by six goals to four for the rest of the afternoon.

They kicked two unanswered goals in the last quarter to reign the deficit back to four points.

Josh Cowell produced his best game for the year, and Joquin Bugeja popped up with two goals.

The Lions are charging up the ladder and have moved up to fourth position after this win.

They trail Avondale Heights in second position by just the one game and percentage.

With Strathmore Community Bank Division One being arguably as tight and even as it’s ever been, wins are pivotal.

The Lions were jumped in the first quarter, and trailed Roxy by three goals at the first break.

After an incredibly inaccurate second quarter where they dominated possession and forward half territory, they failed to convert in front of the sticks.

As a result, they trailed at half time by a single goal.

Momentum categorically shifted in the third term, and the Lions pounced. They poured on the pressure and produced seven unanswered goals in the third quarter that left Roxy stunned.

The Lions had 13 scoring shots in the third quarter to Roxburgh Park’s zero.

Roxy could not recover, and the Lions bounded away to a six-goal win.

MATCH CENTRE

St Albans is finally back in the winner's books after a comfortable 38-point win over Craigieburn.

The Saints have snapped their five-game losing streak, but still remain outside of the top five based on percentage.

The last time these two sides met, the Saints won by an almost identical result.

The Eagles were left stumped as the Saints came out firing with a dominant first half of footy.

The latter took a six-goal lead into the main break, before extending this margin out to 47 points at three quarter time.

The Saints were too good in the end and ran away as 38-point winners.

As anticipated, Mason Dipetta stole the show. His six-goal performance lifted his Saints to their first win in weeks in a clear best-on-ground performance.

Meanwhile for the Eagles, their season continues to fall away as they let another critical game evade them.

They are now two games and percentage outside of the top five, and their season is at breaking point.

Additionally, Shane Jacobs was not listed on the team sheet as coach.

Ricky Zwagerman and Luke Collins both produced solid performances in a what was ultimately another disappointing day.

Craigieburn will get a chance to bounce back when they host Roxburgh Park next week, while St Albans will travel to Leo Dineen Reserve to face Tullamarine.
