Following the State Government's announcement to extend the current lockdown in Metropolitan Melbourne until midnight Thursday 2nd September, the EDFL can confirm the following updates to its season based on the lifting of restrictions to allow for a return to training and play at the end of this lockdown extension.
After considering all circumstances, the EDFL can confirm that the remainder of the home-and-away season will not be played, and all levels of competition will return immediately to their respective finals series.
Subject to the lifting of restrictions allowing for competitive football activity, our junior competitions will return on Sunday the 5th of September for a two-week knock-out finals series comprising of the top four teams from each division.
All junior grand finals will be played the following weekend on Sunday the 12th of September.
Once ground availability is confirmed an official fixture will be released.
Our senior football competitions, comprising of our men’s, women’s and under 18.5’s, will return on the weekend of September 11th subject to the lifting of restrictions to allow for competitive football activity.
Senior finals will be a top four, two-week knock-out series with all grand finals to be played on the weekend of September 18th.
The senior Thirds competition will follow the same finals structure with knock-out finals to be played on the weekend of September 11th and the grand final on the weekend of September 18th.
Official fixtures will be released once venues have been confirmed for these games.
The EDFL also wishes to advise that promotion and relegation will still apply as per usual in our senior men's competitions.
