The EDFL would like to congratulate field umpire Liam Dye, boundary umpire Lachlan Bezzina and goal umpires Jenna Green and Issa Mikhael on being promoted to the VFL development squad for season 2023.
This is recognition of their performances during the year and a massive step in their umpiring careers.
Dye began umpiring in 2015 and has been a regular Premier Senior field umpire in the past two seasons and finished the year umpiring the Strathmore Community Bank Division Two Grand Final.
Bezzina has also been umpiring for eight season and is a two-time Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Senior Grand Final boundary umpire including the 2022 decider.
He was awarded the silver whistle for the Calder Cannons umpiring academy as the most promising umpire in the academy as well as being named in the umpiring panel of the carnival at the 2022 V/Line Cup.
Green began umpiring in 2017 and has contributed as both a field and goal umpire in her time at the EDFL.
She has been a regular Premier Senior goal umpire and finished the season goal umpiring the Premier AGA U18.5 Grand Final.
Mikhael has been umpiring with the EDFL for five seasons and has also regularly umpired as both a field and goal umpire. He finished the season goal umpiring the Premier Division Reserves Grand Final.
“Umpires provide a significant contribution to the overall product of the league, and it is great to see EDFL Umpires being rewarded for the dedication and performances that they have shown throughout their time with the EDFL," Said EDFL Umpires Coordinator Michael Willcox.
"This is great recognition for not just the umpires but also the coaches, mentors and other umpires who have supported them through their umpiring journey.
The league continues to focus on providing umpires development pathway opportunities to help them pursue umpiring as a career. It is a big step in the careers of these four umpires and as a league we wish them all the best for their future umpiring endeavours."
