Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division enters the first week of a split round with just the three games on.
One of the biggest games in the top flight this weekend is the clash between Greenvale and Aberfeldie at Section Road.
The Jets are equal on points with fourth-placed Strathmore following their stirring win against Pascoe Vale last week, and with the Mores playing next week, they’ll have a chance to sneak into the top four for the first time in 2023.
Aberfeldie on the other hand are two games out and a mathematical chance at playing finals, but it’d have to go completely their way from here on out.
The last time these sides met, the Jets won by 19 points to secure their second win of the season with Cam Tudor booting four goals, and Jason Kenneth named their best.
Airport West will meet Avondale Heights at Hansen Reserve with both sides now sharing the same amount of wins.
The Heights have won two of their last three to give themselves a bit of breathing room in the relegation battle.
The Eagles recorded their first win of the season in this matchup in Round 5 with an emphatic 108-point thrashing.
Airport West boasted 12 different goal scorers on that day with Billy Barnes kicking four majors, and Joel Brown named their best.
Rounding out the split round are Essendon Doutta Stars and Pascoe Vale who are both coming off losses that they could have won.
The last time meeting between these two resulted in a nine-goal victory for the Panthers who had almost double the amount of scoring shots.
Roxburgh Park have been peering into the top five for a few weeks now and have been joined on points by Craigieburn who they’ll meet at Lakeside Oval.
The two sides are pretty evenly matched and it was a tight contest the last time they met, with the Eagles winning by just 11 points in a low-scoring affair.
Jake Carlisle, Stephen Tsonas, and Sam Laffan each kicked two for the Eagles while Brenden Egberts, Luke Reichelt, and Cooper McPharlane kicked two each for the Magpies.
A win won’t propel either side into the top five, but the winner will be cheering for Keilor Park to beat Hillside to draw them level on points.
The Devils themselves are a chance at playing finals if things go well for them, and while Hillside took care of business by 67 points in this matchup on Good Friday, it could be a different looking Sharks outfit from that game.
Josh Covelli could miss some time after re-injuring his hamstring, Bailey Ryan has been on VFL duties, and Anthony Prestia has played one game since Round 9.
Those three combined for nine of their 16 goals on Good Friday, so it could be the perfect storm for Keilor Park to get one back.
Rupertswood are four points clear in double chance territory and will face Moonee Valley who are coming off two consecutive wins.
The Fog are level with Keilor Park on points and have a similar chance in making the finals, but also have a similar opportunity to disrupt other sides’ paths to September.
It was just an eight-point game the last time these sides met with Rupo taking the chocolates.
Zak Saad kicked six for Rupo, while Costa Detsikas and Ben Ryan combined for 11 goals up the other end.
Over at Jacana Reserve, Tullamarine will face the undefeated West Coburg who downed the Demons by 56 points in Round 1.
The Burgers jumped out of the gates to lead 47-0 at the first break, where it was pretty even from there.
Deer Park will host their Round 1 opponent in Westmeadows, as St Albans will travel to meet Glenroy.
Strathmore Community Bank Division Two will also enter the first week of a split round with just the two games on.
Battling it out for The Local Sunbury Cup will be Sunbury Kangaroos and East Sunbury at Eric Boardman Reserve.
Both sides were searching for their first win the last time they met with Sunbury Kangaroos doing the job comfortably.
They won by 103 points with Rhys Magin kicking six and Jordan James kicking four.
Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day will head out to Charles Mutton Reserve to see Northern Saints take on ladder leaders Oak Park.
Northern Saints handed Oak Park their first loss of the season the last time they came across each other, kicking seven goals to two in the third quarter to give themselves the ascendancy to win by 26 points.
Khoder Taleb kicked six goals for the Saints while Jedd Taylor kicked four up the other end.
