PANTHERS PRODUCE PLUCKY VICTORY

Pascoe Vale has once again raised its credentials in the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division title race after defeating the previously unbeaten Aberfeldie by six points at Raeburn Reserve.

In a seesawing affair that saw the lead change multiple times throughout the match, the Panthers were able to kick away in the third term to hold an 18-point lead heading into the final quarter.

However, in true Aberfeldie fashion, the Two Blues would not go away, kicking back to get the game to a single digit margin deep into the last stanza.

But a final quarter steadier from Matt Watson, his fourth for the day, saw the Panthers hold on for a rallying win to keep the chaser at bay and put its own pressure on the leading pack.

Daniel Guccione supplied three majors to compliment Watson's four-goal effort while Michael Sikora produced a best-on-ground effort to subdue to influence of Aberfeldie big man, Nick Meese.

The defeat sees Aberfeldie slip to third place on percentage behind Keilor and East Keilor with all three clubs sitting at 6-1, with Pascoe Vale just behind the trio at 5-2 with a date against the winless Avondale Heights this Saturday.

WESTY WELL IN THE HUNT

Westmeadows sit outside the Rookie Me Division One top four only by percentage after a grinding four-point win on the road at Rupertswood over the weekend.

After slumping to 1-3 on the Rookie Me Division One ladder to start the season, the Tigers have bounced back to make it three on the trot and resurrect their year.

Mo Kaakour's side seemingly dominated the contest for the opening three quarters of this game but a wasteful 8.10.53-to-5.3.33 score line heading into the last term left the door open just enough for the home side.

Rupo would come with a wet sail as Mitch Johnson's second goal, and Rupo's seventh for the quarter, saw Arron Bray's side back within five points with just minutes left in the match.

A desperate snap at goal for Rupo as the seconds ticked away would be heroically spoiled by Mohammed Yassine to see the Tigers home with the win.

Yassine would also contribute with two goals for the day alongside Jayden Ranno, George Nabbout and Reece Field while Zac Saad was the standout for Rupo, kicking four.

The 'W' sees Westmeadows leapfrog Rupo into fifth spot on the ladder as a tightly contested race for a top four spot heats up.

DEVILS SHAKE UP THE COMPETITION

Keilor Park have inflicted Oak Park with its first defeat of the 2022 season getting the job done by an astonishing 86 points in a comprehensive performance at Keilor Park Reserve.

In what was built up as one of the biggest contests of the Strathmore Community Bank Division Two season, the Devils had their way with the Kangaroos, as the home side did not give their opposition the slightest of sniffs from the get-go.

By quarter time Paul Guicas' team had already opened up a 33-point lead, that quickly became 52 points by the major break with the Devils' backline letting through just one goal to the competition's leading offense.

With the damage already done and the game opening up, a 10-goal-to-five second half in favour to the home side saw the orange and green run away with the win, leapfrogging Oak Park in the process to take top spot on the ladder.

Ten players would hit the scoresheet for the Devils on the day with Jordan Filakis and Oscar Sasalu leading the way with four and three goals respectively.

On a dirty day for the Kangaroos, last season's AGA Apprenticeships Plus Under 18.5 Division Two Men's Best and Fairest medal winner, Taj McCartney was named best-on-ground for his side in just his second senior appearance.

Oak Park will look to bounce back this week against the Northern Saints while Keilor Park will travel to Brookside Recreation Reserve to play Burnside Heights.

FOG BOUNCE BACK IN STYLE

Moonee Valley has put a fortnight of agony to bed with a crushing victory against Hillside under lights at Shark Park.

After being stripped of victory against Maribyrnong Park due to an injury delay and a heart-breaking one-point loss to ladder leaders Oak Park the previous two rounds, the Fog turned up to put on a comprehensive display against the Sharks.

Moonee Valley raced out to a 35-point lead at the half time break before a scoreless quarter saw that margin remain intact heading into the final term.

Last quarter goals to skipper Hannah Greasley and 2021 Airport Toyota Women's Division Two Best & Fairest winner Georgia Marsland put the result beyond doubt as the Fog ran away with a 52-point victory.

Marsland, who played her first game for Moonee Valley 1, returned to be one of the best afield alongside Anita Ovenden and Nicole Chiera, who kicked five goals for the night.

For the Sharks, Annalise Wilkie was best for her team in a tough night for the black, white and teal.

The Fog now sit a game clear inside the Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division top four, with a telling game against Westmeadows on the fixture for Round 7.

MORES TOO GOOD IN TOP FOUR CLASH

Strathmore has solidified its finals credentials against fellow top four fancy Gisborne with a commanding 44-point victory at Lebanon Reserve.

After a low-scoring opening stanza that saw the Mores lead 8-0, the home team powered away kicking five goals to one to open up a 32-point at the main break.

A further five goals in the second half proved that Strathmore is among the top few teams in this competition.

Pontif Janjamruen starred for the home side kicking six goals on the day and was well supported by the likes of Eloise Freeman, Robyn Randell and Chiara Guarino.

As for Gisborne, Ruby Watts battled manfully while Bridget Macdonald-Myers was the only multiple goal kicker for her side, kicking two.

The loss sees Gisborne leapfrogged by Essendon Doutta Stars who secured a dominate 160-0 win over Moonee Valley 2 at Ormond Park.

EAGLES HOLD FIRM AGAINST CELLER DWELLERS

Airport West has held its spot inside the Airport Toyota Women's Division Two top two despite a valiant effort from last-placed Oak Park 2 at JP Fawkner Reserve.

After sitting out with the bye and a second week with the Round 6 split, the Eagles came out sluggish as the Kangaroos held an early lead at the first break, 14 to 9.

But the stronger Eagles were able to take control from that point forward kicking six goals, as well as 10 behinds, to Oak Park's one goal to hop away with the 35-point win.

For Airport West, Edyn Grubisic, Rachel Mallia and skipper Shae Montrose all kicked two goals each in the contest while Lorelle Musgrove put together a second best-on-ground performance in as many games.

Hannah Fosbrooke kicked two goals in her first game in Oak Park's second side with Anita Brickle, Melissa Roberts and Chloe De Keizer some of the better contributors for the home team.
