Avondale Heights took their season record to 4-2 after a gutsy 16-point win against Glenroy at Canning Reserve.

In tough conditions early, Avondale jumped out of the blocks with 5 goals to zip in the first term to lead by 29 points at quarter-time.

The ruck-forward combination of Tom Russell and Aaron Gundry was proving a challenge for Glenroy with the Heights getting first use from the midfield and Russell also managing two majors in attack.

The Roys were able to wrestle back momentum by half-time but a zero goal, six behind third term cost Ross Terranova's team any chance of making the most of their domination.

Matt Cravino was back at his vintage best for Patrick Byrne's side while Jackson Robb was named the Nena and Pasadena Player of the Match for his strong display through the middle.
