JETS HOLD OFF DOUTTAS IN SECTION ROAD THRILLER

Sportscast Replay - CLICK HERE

Greenvale have ensured that the relegation battle remains interesting after holding off a gallant Essendon Doutta Stars side by one point in an absolute thriller at Greenvale Recreation Reserve.

The Jets skipped out to a seemingly fast start and led by three goals at the first change. They would limit the visitors to just one goal at quarter time, before the Stars exchanged some form and piled on five goals to one in the second term.

The third term was a topsy-turvy affair, with the Jets wrestling back the lead to take a nine point advantage into the final quarter. A frantic final five minutes of the game saw both sides exchange leads, before Addam Maric sealed the game with a Meadows Goal of the Week Contender, sneaking in a goal off the ground from the right forward pocket to put the Jets ahead, to inevitably take out the 10.3.63-9.8.62 victory.

Jacob Thompson, Ryan Townsend and Chris Farchione all contributed with two goals each for Greenvale, whilst it was Declan Willmore and Karl Brown who led from the front for the visitors, booting three goals each.

The loss for the Stars keeps them in dangerous territory, only a game ahead last placed Glenroy. A win in this fixture would’ve almost certainly cemented their spot in the top flight for another year, but big games to come still potentially see them, Avondale Heights and Glenroy trade positions in the final rounds of the year.

It won’t get any easier for the boys from Nipper Jordan Oval who will face Keilor at home in round 15. Greenvale also have a tough task on their hands as they face an in-form Strathmore side, again at Section Road.

MORES STORM INTO TOP FOUR WITH COMMANDING WIN OVER PANTHERS

Sportscast Replay - CLICK HERE

After a seesawing first half of the season, Strathmore have finally found themselves back in the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division top four, with a scintillating 52-point victory over Pascoe Vale at Lebanon Reserve.

The conditions were far from perfect on the Nena and Pasadena Match of the Day, with violent winds and cross breezes causing all kinds of havoc throughout the afternoon.

With the advantage heading towards the pavilion end of the ground, Strathmore took full advantage in the first term and kicked out to a 21-point lead.

The Panthers would then get their turn to respond down the scoring end, and would peg the margin back to under a kick. Two late goals from the navy blue and gold extended the lead out to 15 points at the main break, but was certainly not out of reach for Digby Morell’s men.

That’s when things changed. Strathmore would then turn their game up a notch (or two, or three) and boot six goals to nothing in the third term to take a 51-point lead into three quarter time.

A lacklustre final term saw only one goal kicked either way, as Strathmore picked up the 14.11.95-6.7.43 victory.

Kyle ‘the flea’ Weightman starred up forward, booting three goals and was followed by Athan Tsialtas, Will Jury, Mitch Purcell and Andrew Gallucci who all added two goals of their own.

For Pascoe Vale it was a scarce afternoon in front of goal, with Matthew Watson being the only multiple goal kicker, but there were certainly plenty of positives for the Panthers in other aspects of the game around the ground.

The Mores jump straight up into second on the ladder, leapfrogging both Pascoe Vale and Keilor, whilst maintaining a monster percentage of 170.22 which is currently the best in the league.

Pascoe Vale will look to bounce back when they face Maribyrnong Park in a massive contest at Raeburn Reserve, whilst Strathmore will be looking to continue to dominate the competition when they travel to Section Road to face Greenvale.

GIANT SLAYERS STRIKE AGAIN

Sportscast Replay - CLICK HERE

Rupertswood have now pulled off not one, but two unbelievable upsets this season in Rookie Me Division One. Having beaten Airport West earlier in the year, the Sharks from Salesian College were out for more blood, and boy oh boy did they deliver.

Rupo overcame an extremely slow start to stun Tullamarine on their home deck, taking care of the Demons by three goals.

The Dees burst out of the blocks in the first quarter, and took a five goal lead into first change. This woke up the Sharks, who then responded with a six goal to two second quarter to only trail by four points at the main break.

The second half was all about maintaining consistency for Rupertswood, who managed to hit the front and lead at the final break. Inaccuracy cost the Demons in the final term, with the visitors managing just one goal from six scoring shots. This would inevitably allow Rupo to hold on for the 14.12.96-11.12.78 win.

Zak Saad, Mitchell Johnson and Brent Swallow all dominated up forward, booting three goals each for the Sharks, whilst Benjamin Borg also added a couple. Shaun McKernan and Brad Allen added three goals each of their own for Tullamarine and were followed by Matt Jones who added two goals.

It’s back to the drawing board this week for the Demons, who now sit a game behind Airport West. And it doesn’t get any easier for the boys from Leo Dineen Reserve, who will now take on the Eagles in a top of the table clash back on their home deck in the coming week.

For Rupo, they’ll be looking to continue some good form when they face Craigieburn back on their home soil in Round 15.

FOG STUN MAGPIES AT ORMOND PARK

Sportscast Replay - CLICK HERE

Well it seemed like an eternity between wins for Moonee Valley, and a number of heart-breaking losses in between, but the boys from Ormond Park have finally pencilled another win to their name, and have inadvertently shaken up the finals race after defeating Roxburgh Park by 17 points.

The Fog have proven that they can play good footy on their home deck, as seen with close losses to both Tullamarine and West Coburg only a few rounds ago.

Scores were level at the first break, with Moonee Valley squandering chances to hit the front. Roxy would then kick ahead slightly in a tight second quarter, to take an eight point lead into half time.

Ormond Park was full of life in the third term, as supporters were treated to a six goal to none run from their beloved Fog. They would eventually open up a commanding 33-point lead going into the final break.

Roxy mustered one last push towards the final line, but would inevitably fall short as Moonee Valley held on for the 10.13.73-8.8.56 victory.

Bevan Newell returned from injury and impressed up forward booting two goals, and was followed by Zayas Leonedas, Jack Newman, and Costa Detsikas who also added two majors each.

For the visitors, Matthew Patane impressed on the scoreboard kicking three goals, whilst Teronne Roberts-Potter added two.

The loss for Roxy drops them to sixth on the ladder, with their percentage giving them grief against the other contending sides, whilst for the Fog, they jump off the bottom of the ladder for another week.

It’s shaping up to be a monster week of football for both these sides in Round 15, with the Magpies hosting West Coburg at Lakeside Oval, and Moonee Valley facing off against the Sunbury Kangaroos in a huge relegation battle on the Nena and Pasadena Match of the Day at Eric Boardman Reserve.

DEVILS JUMP ON TOP WITH AN ANNIHILATING WIN OVER LIONS

Sportscast Replay - CLICK HERE

Keilor Park are now sole ladder leaders in Strathmore Community Bank Division Two after demolishing Taylors Lakes by 96 points at Lionheart Reserve.

If you had looked at the reverse fixture back in Round 5 you would have been excused for thinking this game would be a tight affair, and the first quarter definitely seemed that way. The Lions certainly squandered chances, but were able to limit Keilor Park to just one behind at the first break.

That’s when Paul Guicas’s men switched on. They too would inflict their own pain that we have become so used to seeing, piling on seven goals whilst leaving the Lions scoreless in the second quarter, inevitably taking a 35-point lead into half time.

A tight tussle brewed in the third term, with three majors only being kicked between the two sides, but Keilor Park were far from finished and dismantled the Lakers in the final term, piling on an insane ten goals to one to take out the 19.9.123 to 3.9.27 victory.

It’s a result that’s become a trademark of Keilor Park, who also blew apart Hadfield a few weeks prior, booting eleven goals in the final term at Martin Reserve.

It was an ugly afternoon for Taylors Lakes who only managed three goal scorers for the afternoon (Mason Mackay, Mason Lalor and Darby Lalor), whilst it was free flowing for the Devils. Damien Cavka slotted five goals, Dimitrios Guicas booted four and Riley Bentley and skipper Daylan Kempster added three goals each.

With Round 13 looming, both sides have incredibly tough matchups to look ahead to, with Keilor Park facing off against Oak Park in another top of the table clash at J.P Fawkner Reserve, whilst Taylors Lakes will travel to Brookside Recreation Reserve to lock horns with Burnside Heights.

ABERS BACK IN THE TOP FOUR

The hotly contested race for a top four spot in Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division took another turn, with Aberfeldie reclaiming fourth spot following a 28-point win over Hillside.

It was the fourth win in five starts for Abers, who started the season with a 0-4 record, as they continue to rocket up the ladder and contend for a resounding finals finish.

In a grinding game played in tough conditions out at Hillside Reserve, Abers were able to put on a goal in each of the opening two quarters to open up a 12-point lead at half time.

It was a clinical third term from the away side that saw the margin blow out.

Straighter kicking may have seen the lead grow even larger with Abers putting on 2.4 to no score.

A scoreless final quarter saw Hillside go goalless for the game for the third time this year.

Michelle Reid kicked two goals for the victors with Emelia D'Aquila and Jacqueline Wade also chipping in with a goal each.

Toni Finlay and Ilaria Akers were both deemed the best players for their respective sides.

The result ultimately means season over for the Sharks who now sit three games behind fourth placed Aberfeldie with only two rounds to play.

Aberfeldie will be looking to continue its winning ways this weekend when they welcome Burnside Heights to Aberfeldie Park West, while Hillside travel to Ormond Park in a crucial game for Moonee Valley as the Fog continue to fight for a top four spot after going down to Oak Park on Saturday.

In other games, Westmeadows confirmed it will play finals this season with a win over Maribyrnong Park and ladder leaders Keilor took Burnside Heights to task in a 42-point victory.

JETS TOO GOOD FOR VALIANT KANGAROOS

Greenvale were able to get the job done at home in a fiercely fought game against the Sunbury Kangaroos with the Jets eventually prevailing by 32 points.

A fast start for Troy Newton's side saw Greenvale put on four goals to none in the opening term with the margin reading 4.4.28 to 0.0.0 at the first break.

However a two-goal to one second quarter proved the Kangaroos had plenty of fight still in them and weren't going to let this one get away from them.

With nothing but pride on the line, the Roos kept the Jets to just two goals in the second half to keep the game even.

Haylea Cooke was the only multiple scorer for the day slotting two, with Terira Fry, Briana Barba, Lola Howitt, Alisa Magri and Kiara Delia all adding a single goal each.

It was Sophie Pettman, Lisa Kirby and Olivia Cairo getting on the scoreboard for the Kangaroos.

With the top four set in Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division, Greenvale will host Essendon Doutta Stars next week with the Stars chasing an unlikely top two finish.

While for the Sunbury Kangaroos, they'll be looking to put in another strong performance against premiership contender Strathmore.

DEMONS STILL ON A ROLL

Tullamarine are another step closer to the minor premiership in Airport Toyota Women's Division Two after a 39-point victory over Maribyrnong Park 2.

The undefeated Demons were on their way to another commanding victory at Leo Dineen Reserve when the game was called off at half-time due the Lions being down on numbers to constitute the second half.

Kate Nicolaou had two goals to her name while Courtney Annett, Tricia Devine and Laura Devly-Bennett were on the board with a goal apiece when the second quarter finished.

It means Tulla hold its nine-game win streak in this division and remain top of the ladder, two games clear of Airport West.

With only two rounds left to play in Division Two, the trailing Eagles would have to conjure up something remarkable to catch the Demons on percentage all while hoping that other results would go their way.

With the Demons taking on Westmeadows 2 at Willowbrook Reserve, they can all put secure their top placing in the competition and begin preparing for what is set to be an almighty finals campaign.
