KEILOR’S immense star power came to the fore in Friday’s convincing 38-point win over Strathmore at Joe Brown Oval.

It was a tight tussle throughout the first three quarters with only a couple of kicks separating the two premiership contenders, but the Blues stormed home in the final term with eight goals to four to sign off on an impressive performance.

Nick O’Kearney’s 40-touch display earned him NXP Player of the Day honours, while Dean Galea provided his usual output up forward with five goals for the afternoon.

Todd Stevenson kicked three of his own while youngster Harrison Bult was also impressive with three majors on senior debut.

Adam Winter marked his Strathmore return with three goals for the day while Brock Egglestone was named the Mores’ best for his role in limiting the influence of reigning Reynolds Medallist, Kane Barbuto.

AN eye-catching five-goal haul from new recruit Hisham Kerbatieh steered Hillside to its first victory of the new season over Taylors Lakes on Friday.

In what was at times a scrappy affair, the Sharks pulled clear of the Lions in the second half to score an important 36-point win over their fiercest rival.

Kerbatieh was stationed inside the forward 50 throughout the day and was impressive with his contested marking and scoring ability, while at the other end of the ground, new Taylors Lakes recruit Patrick Rose, who was yellow-carded in the final term, managed to snare four goals of his own in what was a good one-on-one dual with Joel Bonnici.

A Daniel Sargent goal after the halftime siren put Taylors Lakes in front going into the main break and the lead changed hands four more times during the third quarter before the Sharks managed to string together six consecutive goals on either side of the final change, effectively ending the game by the early stages of the last.

New or returning players stood tall for both sides in the hot Shark Park conditions with ruckman Rusi Komaitai named Hillside’s best and new Lions recruit Aaron Di Matteo named best for Taylors Lakes.

A NEW-LOOK Keilor Park line-up has sent an early message to its Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 rivals after cruising to victory over Coburg Districts on Friday evening.

In a game that was a little slow of the blocks, the Devils piled on eight goals to two in the second term to establish an unassailable 47-point buffer by halftime before going to record a very impressive 47-point win.

Five-goal hauls from new recruits Luke Conidi and Daniel Mifsud proved to be the difference as the Lions struggled to keep up with Keilor Park’s scoring power, while fellow new arrivals Mack Creevey and James Guicas each impressed with two goals each of their own.

Playing Coburg Districts coach Tom Gleeson had a good night in front of goal with five majors and was among the Lions’ better players, but the visitors couldn’t match Keilor Park across the ground throughout the night.

It was Keilor Park’s first win since Round 12, 2017.
