Darren Flanigan welcomed as Community Club Support Manager

Former Geelong Big Man Joins the EDFL

The EDFL is thrilled to announce the appointment of Darren Flanigan as the League's Community Club Support Manager.

After 138 games in the AFL, the former Geelong and St Kilda ruck has acquired a wealth of experience in community and development football in a career spanning over 25 years.

Flanigan started his professional career at Oakleigh as the Football Development Manager in 1995, before taking on the role as Region Talent Manager at the Dandenong Stingrays, a position he held for over ten years.

More recently, Darren has worked extensively in women's football managing the Victorian Women's Football competition from 2014 to 2016 as well as a two year stint as the Female Football Talent Manager for Victoria before returning to the Stingrays in 2018.

The prospect of joining the EDFL presented a new opportunity for Darren to give back to community football.

"I think the challenge of resurrecting community football and getting things back on track after the last two years is what I'm really excited about," Flanigan said.

"I understand clubs are time poor, with so many volunteers putting in massive amounts of effort at the moment.

"Any assistance we [the League] can give to them is really important."

With an extensive history in development football himself, EDFL CEO Ian Kyte says having Flanigan as part of the team is a great asset.

"It's a great acquisition for the EDFL to have obtained the services of Darren," Kyte said.

"His knowledge of clubs, elite football programs, female football and coaching development places us [the League] in a great position to enhance all of these areas.

Darren will be working closely with clubs in his new role providing assistance with club development and coaching.
