Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Round 9

By Tara Murray

The finals race in Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division is starting to heat up.

For much of the season the top four teams have looked on track to stay there throughout the season, but in recent weeks Essendon Doutta Stars and Oak Park have shown they are also in the mix.

The Stars, which sits in sixth spot, sit two games outside the top four. Ella Nickolaus continues to shine for the Stars, named in the best two for her side in all five matches she's played.

They would need things to go their way, but you can’t rule them out.

This week though presents a massive test, against Keilor.

Keilor, which is set for a top two finish, continues to put out strong performances against teams in the bottom half of the ladder.

The Blues have the strongest defence in the competition, making the Stars' task a hard one.

Oak Park is the most inform team in the competition having won its last three matches, including the scalp of Westmeadows.

The Kangaroos will be favourites to make it four in a row, facing a winless Aberfeldie team.

While Abers has shown some good signs, they haven’t been able to put four quarters together, nor put the score on the board.

A win for the Kangaroos could have them knocking on the door of the top four.

Westmeadows on the other side need to return to the winners list to make sure they stay in the top four.

The Tigers have lost two of their last three matches and the task doesn’t get any easier this week against Hillside.

The Sharks continue to impress each week, with Emily Paterno leading the way, as the side's and league's leading goal kicker.

Expect the Tigers to push them tough, with the talent of Gemma Wright, Jacinta Scott and Courteney Munn.

In the other match, Maribyrnong Park will be looking to make it two in a row, with victory against Burnside Heights.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, Gisborne and Moonee Valley shapes up as the most interesting game of the round.

With the division's three leading goalkickers all in this match, expect plenty of scoreboard pressure.

The Fog, who are the only undefeated team left across the three women’s competitions, easily got the points last time round, but this time travel up to Gisborne and will play on the big ground.

For the Bulldogs, a win will help in their quest for a finals spot.

The Sunbury Lions enter a match for the first time this season, coming off the back of a loss.

The loss against the Fog, was a good test for the side which now has clear indication of where they sit.

The Lions face Tullamarine, which finally broke through for its first win of the season.

The Demons have shown huge improvement in recent weeks and was a deserving result.

It will be a test against the Lions, but the Demons will back themselves in.

Strathmore will be hoping to continue its good form against Pascoe Vale, while Airport West against Greenvale could easily provide an upset result.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, outside of Moonee Valley the results seem to be a toss of the coin each week.

Moonee Valley faces Burnside Heights this week in the top and bottom of the table clash.

On recent form, the Fog is on track for a big win.

Coburg Districts is starting to find some real form and hitting the scoreboard with it.

It will be a good test of how far they’ve come this week against Westmeadows, which won the first matchup between the two teams.

The final match is the Sunbury Kangaroos hosting Maribyrnong Park. This is the final of the first up match ups for the Kangaroos, which should give them a clear idea of where they sit.
