Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Round 4

By Tara Murray

MARIBYRNONG Park is one of the surprise packets of the Essendon District Football League women’s competition.

With three wins on the board in their first season in Airport Toyota Women’s Premier Division, the Lions are one of the early pace setters.

This week they face their biggest challenge so far, against a Westmeadows side that is starting to find some good form.

The key for the Lions will be to get off to a good start and maintain it.

The Tigers have shown that they can run out games well and have plenty of goal scoring power.

Gemma Wright is coming off two best-on-ground performances and will be a key for the Tigers again.

At the other end of the table, you have got Burnside Heights and Essendon Doutta Stars searching for their first win.

Both teams have had their moments in the opening three weeks but haven’t been able to put it together for four quarters.

For whichever team can do that, it will go a long way to getting the win.

Keilor, which is undefeated, has slightly gone under the radar in the first few rounds. This time they face Oak Park, which is still gelling together as a side.

The Blues are an experienced line up which could be telling against the new side in the competition.

In the other match, Hillside is looking to continue its good run of form against Aberfeldie. The addition of former AFLW player Taylor Mesiti last round only strengthened an already strong line-up.

They face an Aberfeldie side, which is surprisingly still looking for its first win.

In Airport Toyota Women’s Division One, the battle between Greenvale and Moonee Valley is the game to look forward to.

Some people have these two sides as their early grand final match up.

The Jets are coming off a loss, while the Fog were solid against Strathmore.

With the five leading goal kickers in the division so far in these two teams, it could be a battle between the forward lines.

Gisborne continues to impress in its first season in the competition, with a tight win for the second straight week.

The side has a lot of experience and that shows through. This week they face Tullamarine, which remains winless.

The Demons are a young and developing team, who are only going to get better as the season goes on.

Airport West broke through for its first win last week in a massive day for the club. Pascoe Vale also put in a strong performance for its first win of the year.

Both sides seem to be around the same mark, leaving to an interesting match-up.

The final matchup of the round sees the Sunbury Kangaroos hosting Strathmore.

After three big losses for the Kangaroos, it shapes up as a difficult task against a side which has been impressive in the first three rounds.

In Airport Toyota Women’s Division Two, Moonee Valley will be looking for its second win against a Burnside Heights side that has struggled so far.

Sunbury Lions will go in as red-hot favourites against Maribyrnong Park, which didn’t have enough numbers last week.

The most interesting game in the division 2 this week is Coburg Districts and Westmeadows, with both teams looking to try and cement a top two spot.
