Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Round 3

By Tara Murray

NO matter the division, Keilor versus Aberfeldie shapes up as one of the matches of the round in the Essendon District Football League and this week is no different in Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division.

The two sides face off this week for the first time since the 2019 premier division grand final, when Aberfeldie kept Keilor scoreless.

The Blues though will go in favourites this week, with Abers a very different looking side to the powerful one of two years ago.

Abers didn't score a goal last round, will we see them bounce back this week?

The match is one of many big ones in premier division this round.

Hillside and Burnside Heights kick off the round on Friday night, as they face off for the WestWaters Cup.

The Sharks are one of the sides setting the early tempo and there is no reason to think they won’t do it again this week.

Burnside will be looking to get on the board after a couple of tough weeks.

Westmeadows put out a performance last round which was expected of them as one of the premiership favourites.

There is plenty of momentum at the Tigers, with a few well known names joining the club in recent weeks, which could boost the side.

Essendon Doutta Stars have the task of trying to stop them this week.

The Stars have been determined so far, but just haven’t been able to break through for that win.

They'll have to be at their best if they are to break through this week

The other match of the round is Maribyrnong Park and Oak Park and this match is just as interesting.

The Lions have been the surprise packet early in the season with back-to-back wins, facing an Oak Park side which would be licking its wounds after being beaten by Westmeadows.

The match will give a clearer indication of where these two sit.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division 1, there are a couple of matches which will start to sort out teams.

Greenvale has been good in the first two weeks with good wins. Gisborne has also come away undefeated.

The Jets will go in favourites, but it will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs experience shows through.

Strathmore and Moonee Valley shapes up as one of the more intriguing matches of the round.

Both sides are undefeated after two rounds and have had some big wins.

This shapes as Strathmore’s biggest test so far and will give people an opportunity to see where they sit.

The first of the two matches between the winless teams, the Sunbury Kangaroos and Pascoe Vale.

On results, Pascoe Vale will enter the match as favourites, but with a few more players this week for the Kangaroos, expect a better performance.

The final match of the day is between Tullamarine and Airport West.

Both big losers in round one, the Demons put in a much better performance against Greenvale, despite not getting the win.

They have been slow out of the blocks, which for a team playing together for the first time could be expected.

They'll be hoping its third time lucky this week.

In division 2, Coburg Districts claimed its first ever win last week, which is set to boost the confidence of the playing group.

Districts could quite easily make it two wins in a row, this time against Maribyrnong Park.

Maribyrnong Park showed in round one they have some talent in the side, but had a lack of numbers last week which had a big impact.

Westmeadows and Moonee Valley is a battle between two of the second sides, which have both shown good signs.

Who lines up for both sides, will provide plenty of intrigue.

In the final match of the round, Sunbury Lions have made a statement early in the season and are the early front runners.

They will go in red hot favourites against Burnside Heights, which is yet to win a game.
