Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - May 26th, 2022

By Tara Murray

The matches don’t get much bigger than the top of the table clash in Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division between Keilor and Oak Park.

The two teams along with Westmeadows have one loss each after the first six rounds.

The Blues lost to the Tigers earlier in the season, while the Kangaroos beat the Tigers in the last round.

It was a return to form for the Kangaroos, after a couple of tough rounds with illness going through the club.

The Kangaroos benefited greatly from the return of Felicity Theodore for her third game of the season, while Marnie Jarvis was important in her first game for the year.

The Blues enter the match as the inform team of the competition.

The Blues have been the highest scoring side, while at the same time conceding the least points.

Westmeadows and Moonee Valley, who round out the top four, shapes as another interesting contest.

The Tigers return to the field after their first loss of the season. With the margin being just eight points, there wouldn’t be any panic stations.

The Fog continue to surprise teams and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them test the Tigers.

Nicole Chiera is coming off her best game of the season kicking five goals and will be a handful up forward.

Georgia Marsland played in the first team last weekend and played really well. Will we see her there again this weekend?

The other two matches see the bottom four teams face off.

Aberfeldie now has two wins on the trot and is starting to find some consistency, but Maribyrnong Park will provide a sterner test.

The Lions have a stronger attack and better defence, but Abers has been better in recent weeks against the bottom two sides.

The Lions need to win this if they’re to keep in touch with the top four.

The other match is between the two local rivals in Hillside and Burnside Heights.

Not too long ago these sides were playing off in finals, but now both are at the bottom of the table.

The Sharks on paper look a better side, but have had their struggles scoring. The Bears meanwhile can’t put together four quarters of football with their key players starring every week.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, Essendon Doutta Stars is the last team to get a crack at Greenvale.

The Jets have proven too strong for everyone so far, having scored 60 points more than the next best, while only conceding 66 points total.

Alisa Margi leads up front with 24 goals, one of three Jets players in the top five goal kickers in this division.

The Stars are starting to get some more depth and it’s showing on the scoreboard. In their most recent match, they put Moonee Valley 2 to the sword.

Georgia Sampson kicked five goals and will need to hit the scoreboard again this week if they’re to knock off the Jets.

Gisborne, which had their worst performance of the year against Strathmore, should bounce back against Moonee Valley 2.

The Sunbury Kangaroos have so far fallen short against the sides above them and will go in as underdogs against Strathmore.

The Mores consistency has been the key for them with their key players performing each week. The Kangaroos will be seeking that same consistency.

The Sunbury Lions will be looking for their second win of the season against Pascoe Vale.

Skipper Audrey Follett has led the way for the Lions this year with plenty of support from Amy Starzer and Emily Taylor.

The Panthers continue to battle for numbers, but the likes of Tacita Siliato give them plenty of hope for the future.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, there are a couple of interesting match ups.

Airport West hosts Coburg Districts in a battle between two of the top sides. Both teams have similar records, having only lost to Tullamarine.

The Eagles’ Emily Gipp leads the goal kicking with the Lions Grace Ingram sits second, and the top five made up from players from both teams.

This could be a high scoring affair, with the winner to cement second spot.

After an improved performance last week Oak Park will travel to Walsh Oval to take on Maribyrnong Park.

It will be the Lions first outing since the first week of May due to having the bye during the split round.

It presents as a good chance for both these teams to get their first win of the season.

In the final Division Two match, Tullamarine will travel out to face the Sunbury Kangaroos for the first time.

The Demons would be expected to come away with a big win, with the Kangaroos focusing on improving on their results each week.
