Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - May 21-22, 2021

By Tara Murray

Will Aberfeldie or Burnside Heights breakthrough for their first win of the Airport Toyota Women’s Premier Division season?

Two sides that we are usually used to seeing in the finals, have both struggled this year with a change of playing groups.

Both still have a number of experienced key players, so the result could come down to some of those less experienced players and how they stand up.

The bottom of the table clash is one of four crackers in this round.

Undefeated Keilor faces another one of the top sides in Westmeadows.

The Blues have been going under the radar this season and this match up presents their biggest challenge so far.

The Tigers side, which has several former Keilor players in it, will be looking for a big scalp.

The other top four sides also face off with Hillside taking on Maribyrnong Park.

Hillside will go in favourites to continue their undefeated run, with the Lions not being able to quite go with the other top sides as of yet.

Can they do it this week?

Oak Park and Essendon Doutta Stars play each other in the other match, with both sides looking to keep the pressure on the top four.

In Airport Toyota Women’s Division One, Gisborne versus Strathmore is the pick of the games.

The Bulldogs are coming off their first loss of the season and will be looking to bounce back.

The Mores are one of the most improved sides this year and will not let the Dogs have their own way. Expect a close one.

Sunbury Lions opened their Division One account last week with a strong performance and win against Tullamarine.

It’s a tougher task this week against Airport West.

The Eagles have shown some good signs this season but couldn’t match it with Greenvale last week.

This is a key match up in shaping the top four.

Moonee Valley faces Tullamarine in the battle between top and bottom.

The Fog has shown they can put a score on the board, and most would predict it would be the same this week.

In the other match, Greenvale travels to play Pascoe Vale.

The Jets responded after two straight losses and facing an unpredictable Panthers side, will be expecting to make it two in a row.

In Airport Toyota Women’s Division Two, some sides will get a second look at each other with the second match ups between sides.

Coburg Districts got its second win of the season with a hard-fought win against the Sunbury Kangaroos in the last round.

They face Moonee Valley this week. The Fog, which smashed Maribyrnong Park last round.

Round 1 was a one-sided affair, but a lot has changed since then, so expect a closer game.

The Kangaroos were more than competitive in their first match in Division Two, but it doesn't get any easier against the top side Westmeadows.

The Tigers continue to find ways to get the wins and deserve their top spot.

In the other match Maribyrnong Park faces Burnside Heights.

The two teams have one win between them, when the Lions beat the Bears in round one.
