Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - May 19th, 2022

By Tara Murray

After a week off due to the split round, there will be some very eager teams to get back out on the field in the Airport Toyota Women’s competitions.

Last week it was the top four sides in the Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division, this week it was the four teams which started the round in the bottom half of the table.

Burnside Heights will be hoping a match up with Aberfeldie will kick start its season for a second straight year.

The Bears are the only team without a win, but have shown good signs in many of their games, but haven’t been able to get over the line.

The first start for them will be getting on the scoreboard, after being held scoreless in their last match against Keilor.

Aberfeldie will be hoping to make it two in a row this weekend. Abers has shown plenty of good signs, but hadn’t been able to play four quarters of football for the most part.

Ilaria Akers and Elisha Wain have been two of the keys for Abers, having been named the best in four of their six matches.

The Hillside and Moonee Valley match shapes up as an interesting one.

Moonee Valley has the chance to sit a game clear of Maribyrnong Park in the top four.

The Fog has been one of the more in form teams over the last month, with two wins, a draw for a match called off and a one point loss to Oak Park.

They have shown they can match it with the top sides and would be confident heading into this match.

Hillside on the other hand is the most unpredictable team in the competition. After beating Oak Park, they then lost to Aberfeldie which they had yet to beat.

For the Sharks, they have some really strong talented players, but who turns out on the field each week is sometimes the biggest question.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, Moonee Valley 2 will face the Essendon Doutta Stars.

The two sides are in different spots this season.

The Fog are yet to win a match coming up from Division Two, with a lot of new players playing for the first time.

Lily Wood, Alexandria Caddy, Isabella Theodosis and Jana Taleb have been some of the standouts for the side.

The Stars on the other hand have an eye on finals. Having easily accounted for the sides in the bottom half of the table, the Stars will be favourites.

What has been impressive has been the spread of contributors across the board. No player has been named in the best more than three times, showing their depth.

The biggest match in the women’s competitions this round, is between Strathmore and Gisborne.

Sitting second and third, the two teams both have equal records having only lost to Greenvale.

This match will give a bit of an insight which team sits second behind the Jets.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, Coburg Districts will host the Sunbury Kangaroos 2.

The two times these teams have met it has been a good battle and expect no different this time round.

Grace Ingram has been a standout for the Lions in her first season at the club and expect her to be among the stars again this week.

In her recent game, she kicked five goals against Oak Park.

The Kangaroos showed improvement in their last game, and will be hoping to show even more this week.

The other match sees Oak Park 2 host Airport West. The Eagles have shown no mercy against the second sides, and you would expect this to be no different.

With both sides having had a week off, it will mean they both get a few players back.
