Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - July 7th, 2022

By Tara Murray

The second half of the split round will give a number of teams a shot at getting one step closer to sealing their finals spots.

After all the results went the way of the favourites last week, this time round there seems to be a few closer matches on paper this week.

In Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division, Moonee Valley or Maribyrnong Park will move into the top four following their match.

The two teams enter their match equal on points, two points behind Abefeldie.

Both teams have had their moments at times this season and have pushed the top teams, but haven’t quite got over the line.

The first match between the two teams ended in a draw after it was called off due to an injury.

Moonee Valley has been the higher scoring team of the two and the better defensive team of the two, which gives them the slight advantage.

Westmeadows will have the chance to get back on the winners list and just about seal their finals spot against Burnside Heights.

After such a strong start, the Tigers have lost their last three games and gone away from what they were doing at the start of the season.

Playing the bottom side gives them the chance to regain some form. The likes of Gemma Wright and Jacinta Scott are due for big games.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, Essendon Doutta Stars can seal their spot and end the Sunbury Kangaroos finals hopes.

Last time the Stars shone bright, despite being short on numbers and gave the Kangaroos a reality check.

The Stars had a last up loss to Strathmore, which all but one team has suffered. The Stars' strength has been their evenness.

No player has been named the best more than five times.

For the Kangaroos, they need to play a consistent four quarters if they’re any chance. They haven’t been able to do that.

Olivia Cairo has been a star for the Kangaroos this season and if she can give her mids first chance, it will be helpful.

Greenvale faces Moonee Valley in the other Division One match. Last time they faced each other, the Jets recorded their biggest score of the season.

The Jets have seemingly gotten stronger since then with the addition of Alex Quigley. There could be another one-sided match this week.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, the top of the table clash between Airport West and Tullamarine, is one of the highlights across all three grades.

The Demons got the win last time, with it being the Eagles only loss of the year. Both teams have big percentages, while the spread of contributions across the board for both sides.

Maribyrnong Park 2 and Westmeadows 2 face off in the other match.

The Lions are coming off their first win of the season and will face a tough test against the Tigers.

The Tigers will want to continue to prepare for finals.
