Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - July 28th, 2022

By Tara Murray

As the regular season winds up, two matches in the Airport Toyota Women’s competition, will shape the final fixtures make-up.

While the top four and who will play who in Airport Toyota Women's Division One and Airport Toyota Women's Division Two are settled, the fourth and final spot in the premier division finals is on the line.

Will Aberfeldie do enough to hold onto that fourth spot, or will Moonee Valley upset Westmeadows to give itself a sniff of sneaking into finals.

The first match on Saturday will go a long way to deciding that, with the Fog hosting the Tigers.

The Fog have been playing some consistent football in recent rounds, while not always getting the win.

On Saturday they snuck home against Hillside, despite missing key players like Anita Ovenden, Georgia Marsland, Erin Tarollo, Hannah Greasley and Isabella Theodosis.

The task will be a difficult one, with the Tigers priming themselves for finals. There’s a possibility the two teams could play each other in the first week of finals as well.

The Tigers lost to Oak Park last week, but again showed some good signs after a poor period in the middle of the season.

That match will be underway when the match between Maribyrnong Park and Aberfeldie gets started down the road.

All Abers needs is a win to secure finals.

On form, Abers will be the favourites in this match. They finally hit the scoreboard on Saturday and produced some of their best football of the season.

The Lions on the other hand have struggled in recent weeks with depth and being able to put a score on the board.

Having now lost five games in a row, the Lions will need to find something special.

Burnside Heights will host Hillside in the local rivalry as both sides end their seasons. The Bears have had a good record against the Sharks in recent times.

The final match of the round is Oak Park and Keilor in the top of the table clash. Normally this would be the match of the round, but with the two teams playing each other in the first week of the

finals, cards are surely going to be held closely to coaches' chests.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, the finals matches are set, but ladder positions can change.

Essendon Doutta Stars currently sit in fourth, but could finish third depending on other results.

The Stars will be favourites against Moonee Valley, which is hoping to finish its season with a win.

With the Sunbury Lions forfeiting their match against Greenvale, the Jets secure the minor premiership.

While a break is good, the Jets would have been keen to fine tune some things heading into finals.

Gisborne against Strathmore is the most interesting game of the round, with both sides to play finals.

But it’s another one of those matches, that sides may not put everything on the park with little to get out of the match.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, Coburg Districts face Airport West.

After not playing much football in recent weeks, the Lions will be keen to get out there and play some good football.

Oak Park and Maribyrnong Park will be hoping to finish their seasons on a high. Both sides have struggled for numbers, so fingers crossed they can both field sides.

The final match is top versus bottom in Tullamarine and the Sunbury Kangaroos. The minor premiers will look to fine tune things, with the Kangaroos looking to finish off the season with a strong performance.
