Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - July 14th, 2022

By Tara Murray

Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division is where most of the eyes will be this week in the women’s competitions.

While the division 1 and division 2 top fours have been sorted, all but one team can still mathematically play finals in the Premier Division.

Three of the four matches could go a long way to deciding who might finish in the fourth spot.

The first match of the round, is the one that doesn’t have any bearing on the finals mix.

Bottom side Burnside Heights hosts top side Keilor.

No matter the result in this match, the two sides will remain in the same position.

For the Bears the last few rounds are about pride, while the Blues will be looking to cement top spot, which could be secured with a big win this week.

Last time they played, the Blues won 55-0. It could be a similar margin this week.

Maribyrnong Park hosts Westmeadows as it aims to keep its season alive.

The Lions had one of their most disappointing performances of the season, the previous round losing to Moonee Valley 1.

Lily Bateman was again one of their best, but the support wasn’t there.

Last time they faced Westmeadows it was a low-scoring affair. That’s likely to be their best chance this time round too.

The Tigers all but sealed their finals spot with a win against Burnside Heights. The win was a vital one of the Tigers, who had dropped their last three games.

In a good sign, they had three players kick multiple goals, while it wasn’t their stars who were named in the best.

Somehow despite sitting seventh, Hillside can still make finals if everything was to go to plan.

The Sharks need to win all three of their remaining matches and hope results go their way.

After having a week off due to the split round, the Sharks should be refreshed. They tested Oak Park 1 in their last match which is a good sign they’re on the right track.

Abers has the chance to end the Sharks finals hopes, while enhancing their own. They were given a bit of a reality check in their last match against Keilor, but outside of that have been pretty consistent.

The last match of the round is Oak Park 1 hosting Moonee Valley.

The Kangaroos have started to find some good form, with three good wins in their most recent matches.

Alexi Kasteliotis, Emily Findlay and Felicity Theodore were three of the stars in recent weeks and will be key come finals.

Moonee Valley continues to exceed expectations and sits in the four with three rounds remaining.

The Fog was convincing against Maribyrnong Park, with Charlotte Clayton kicking three goals in her second game for the season.

With a few players set to miss this week, the Fog will be tested.

In Airport Toyota Women's Division One, all three matches look straight forward on paper.

Strathmore will host Moonee Valley 2.

The Mores have had two weeks off due to the split round and bye, so should be refreshed. They face Moonee Valley 2, which was heavily beaten by Greenvale in the split round.

With the Fog’s top side set to be missing a few players, it will have an impact on the Fog’s second team.

Essendon Doutta Stars will host the Sunbury Lions at Buckley Park.

The Stars had a tough contested game in the mud at Buckley Park against the Sunbury Kangaroos and they can expect the same against the Lions.

Collingwood VFLW player Nyakoat Dojiok played her first game of the season for the Stars against the Kangaroos and provided plenty of trouble up forward and in the ruck.

The Stars will be hoping to get a good win to seal up third spot.

Greenvale hosts the Sunbury Kangaroos in the last game of the round in Division One.

The Jets will be favourites here, but the Kangaroos pushed the Stars for most of their match last week.

The Jets forward options led by Alisa Magri and Alex Quigley will be hard to stop, but the side will have to be switched on to get the four points.

Airport Toyota Women's Division Two is another competition with finals bound teams facing teams outside the top four.

Coburg Districts will face Oak Park 2, as the Lions aim to seal up third spot.

Ladder leaders Tullamarine faces Maribyrnong Park 2, while Sunbury Kangaroos 2 will be hoping to get their first win against Westmeadows 2.
