ABERFELDIE captain Luke Davis will lead the Essendon District Football League out onto Bayswater Oval this weekend.
Davis was last night announced captain of the EDFL’s Senior Interleague team, with Abers team mate Josh Toy and Greenvale stalwart Stephen Brewer to both serve as vice-captains.
Also confirmed last night was the final squad of 25, with Aberfeldie contributing nine players to the Interleague cause.
Reigning premier Keilor and Essendon Doutta Stars each have three players in the 25, while Cameron Cloke (Jacana) is the only player from outside Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division that will don the famous red and black jumper against the Eastern Football League.
The final team that takes the field will consist of 23 players.
“It should be good fun,” Davis said after Thursday’s team dinner.
“We have a lot of quality players from around the competition and we’re coming up against a strong side in the EFL, so it’s a great opportunity and an honour to be leading them.
“There are lots of leaders within the group, so it’ll be a combined effort from all, I think.”
Davis co-captained a star-studded Aberfeldie side to premiership glory in 2015 and is now looking forward to leading another talented side on Saturday.
“It’s exciting that blokes you’re usually preparing to play against, you’re now playing with, so it’s going to be fun,” he said.
“Instead of defending Dean Galea and Patrick Rose, you’ll be kicking it to them and hopefully they’ll be kicking goals for us, so there’s plenty of talent across the park and it should be a lot of fun.
“I just can’t wait to get out there now.”
