Glenroy have clinched their first win of the season, defeating Avondale Heights in an early season relegation battle at Canning Reserve.
Both sides were winless going into the fixture, and it was the visitors who controlled the game and led at every change. A four goal to one second term propelled the lead out to 26 points, before the Roys eventually took out the 11.16.82-7.11.53 win.
Judd Brewster and Aaron Kite were solid up forward booting three goals each, and Logan Berryman added two. For the Heights, Matt Darby was able to put three majors on the board, whilst Jackson Robb added a couple along with best on ground honours.
It’s been a tough start to the season for Avondale Heights, who inevitably won this same fixture last year in a strong outing. They now drop to 0-6 with things not getting any easier as they face East Keilor in Round 7.
Glenroy also have a tough task ahead of them as they host Keilor at Sewell Reserve.

Aberfeldie have remained undefeated in Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division, defeating East Keilor in a highly anticipated top of the table clash at Clifton Park.
Both sides came into the game 5-0, but it was Adam Marcon’s men who spoiled the Cougar’s dream undefeated run taking out a commanding 38-point win.
It was a dominant display from Abers who led at every change and were able to muster 15 different goal kickers as they ran out 17.13.115-12.5.77 victors. Both sides were also without their first choice ruckmen, with Cougar Chris Stewart serving his suspension, whilst Nick Meese dropped out late with illness.
For the visitors, playing-coach Tim Bongetti was impressive in front of the sticks, and led the way with four goals. Jake Hazik and Andrew Tashevski-Beckwith also added a couple, but it wasn’t enough against an Abers side who averaged no less than four goals a quarter.
Kyle Reimers and Michale Ktona slotted two goals each with a multitude of players adding singles behind them.
The Cougars will certainly be looking to bounce back when they face a winless Avondale Heights outfit back home at Overland Reserve, whilst Aberfeldie set up an interesting clash with Pascoe Vale on the road at Raeburn Reserve.

Airport West have firmly solidified themselves as premiership favourites in Strathmore Community Bank Division One, taking care of Tullamarine in another undefeated matchup at Hansen Reserve.
The boys from the Nest in the West started well and didn’t look back, booting six goals to two in the first term to take a convincing 26-point lead into the first break.
It was smooth sailing from there for the home side, with the Dees having to play catch up footy for the majority of the afternoon.
The Eagles would eventually win the game 18.15.123-14.12.96 on the back of Anthony Aloi’s four goals. Ned Gentile added three whilst Jesse McVeigh, Daniel Sinnott, Brendan Godden and Seth Robinson all added two majors each.
For the visitors, Matt O’Dwyer and Anthony Liberatore led from the front with three goals each, followed by Antonio Prestia who kicked two. Shaun McKernan was only able to manage one goal in the game.
It wasn’t enough to topple the in-form Eagles who have looked the slightly better side to this point in the season. Both sides’ goalscoring depth was on full display with each team posting nine goal kickers for the afternoon.
Airport West remain undefeated in season 2022, the only team to do so to this point, with Tullamarine still right behind them at 5-1. The Eagles will travel to Lakeside drive to face Roxburgh Park, whilst Tullamarine will look to bounce back when they host Craigieburn at Leo Dineen Reserve.

Roxburgh Park has provided yet another stunning performance, and have upset West Coburg in the process, defeating the Burgers by two goals at Shore Reserve.
The Magpies opened up their account with a five goal first quarter, before Dale May’s men fought back and looked to control the game. The Burgers would manage to kick five goals to three between the second and third quarter to take a 15-point lead into the final change.
In true Roxy fashion though, the boys from Lakeside drive didn’t give in, posting a six goal to one final quarter to take a thrilling 14.9.93-11.15.81 victory on the road.
Luke Reichelt had himself a day out booting four goals for the visitors, followed by Ryan Micallef, Teronne Roberts-Potter and Raafat Rachrache who all added two goals each.
The win propels the pies to 5-1 and into equal second, just third behind Tullamarine on percentage. They also sit a game clear of Rupertswood who have also flown in under the radar to jump into the top four.
West Coburg will be looking to bounce back next week against the struggling Sunbury Kangaroos at Eric Boardman Reserve, whilst Roxy host the ladder leaders Airport West in what is shaping to be a brilliant matchup at Lakeside Drive.

Hadfield has shrugged off a slow start to take a dominant 50-point win over the Northern Saints on their home deck at Martin Reserve.
Tamer Abdallah’s men started well on the NXP Match of the Day and managed to take a 14-point lead at quarter time, posting four goals to two, whilst commanding the inside 50 count.
From there it was all Hadfield, who burst out of the quarter time break and booted nine goals to one to take a 33-point lead into the main change. Josh Marino began to dominate around centre clearances, and would have six just by himself in the second term.
It was smooth sailing for the Hawks in the second half, who eventually ran out 17.12.114-9.10.64 winners on what was a special afternoon at the Hawks' nest.
Mark Sabatino dominated up forward, booting five goals, with Jason Choueiri adding three. Angus Budge, Connor Ahern and Steven Angus all added two majors each.
For the visitors Moustafa Rabah managed two goals for the afternoon, but it was slim pickings after that with all other goal kickers managing singles.
The boys from Charles Mutton Reserve also have some injury clouds to overcome in the next few weeks, with the biggest being Mahmoud Taleb who suffered a groin injury. He would see out the game but only because the Saints were stretched on the bench and would finish with just one rotation.
Hadfield will be looking to keep the pressure on the top 4 in Strathmore Community Bank Division Two when they face Jacana away from home. For Northern, they will take on a struggling Coburg Districts outfit at home.
ROOS HAND TIGERS THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
It’s fair to say that Oak Park haven’t been extremely convincing in the past few weeks, but the girls from JP Fawkner Reserve have pulled another twist in what has been an enthralling season in Airport Toyota Women’s Premier Division so far.
The Roos were able to topple ladder leaders Westmeadows on their home deck, taking the chocolates by eight points in another tight tussle.
It was a see-sawing affair, with both sides trading leads throughout the contest. Westy would lead by four points at the half before Oak Park kicked away slightly to earn themselves a nine point lead at the final change. They would eventually hold on for the 4.5.29-3.3.21 victory.
Sam German showed her class and experience in massive moments, and also added two goals to the scoreboard. She was followed by Rhianna Nunn and Marnie Jarvis who added singles.
For the visitors, Jacinta Scott, Natalie Tull-Boyle and Brooke Byron all contributed with single majors for Westmeadows, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Tigers just fell short.
It now means that there’s a three horse race at the top of the ladder, with Oak Park, Westmeadows and Keilor all on equal points at 5-1. The battle for fourth is also starting to heat up and take shape between Moonee Valley and Maribyrnong Park who also sit on equal points in fourth and fifth respectively.
It sets up a scrumptious matchup after the split round, with another top of the table clash to be contested between the Roos and Blues at Joe Brown Oval in a fortnight. For Westmeadows, they will be looking to jump back into the top two when they face Moonee Valley at Willowbrook Reserve in Round 7.
SUNBURY BOUNCE TO VICTORY OVER PLUCKY PANTHERS
The Sunbury Kangaroos have recorded their second win of the season, defeating Pascoe Vale by 43 points at Raeburn Reserve.
The Panthers were fairly admirable in defeat, and even led at quarter time. The Roos woke up though and piled on five goals to none in the second quarter to set up a four goal lead, and would keep the Pascoe Vale scoreless again in the third quarter as they built on their buffer.
Sunbury would add three goals to one in the final term to take out the 10.5.65-3.4.22 win, an important victory on the road which keeps the pressure on fourth spot.
Lisa Borg led from the front kicking three goals for Sunbury and was followed by Carla Blythe and EDFL media’s very own Tara Murray who both added two goals each.
For the Panthers, Tacita Siliato, Chelsi Old and Kirstie Martin all added single majors to the scoresheet.
The Sunbury Kangaroos currently sit a game behind Essendon Doutta Stars in fifth. They will venture back to Eric Boardman Reserve to host Strathmore in Round 7, whilst Pascoe Vale will travel to Clarke Oval to face the Sunbury Lions after the split round.
DEES DOMINATE TIGERS ON THEIR HOME DECK
Tullamarine have continued their undefeated start to the season in Airport Toyota Women's Division Two, taking care of Westmeadows 2 by 45 points at Leo Dineen Reserve.
In the only game for the week in the division it was the Tulla girls who dominated from start to finish, keeping the Tigers scoreless and taking out an inaccurate 5.14.45-0.0.0 victory at home.
Tricia Devine booted two goals for the Dees, and was followed by Laura Devlyn-Bennett, Skyla Cain and Courtney Annett who all added singles. Jade Reaburn took out the best on ground honours.
Tullamarine will look to continue their undefeated run when they face Sunbury Kangaroos 2 away at Eric Boardman Reserve after the split round, whilst the Tigers will enjoy two weeks off with the bye in Round 7.
