The first NXP Match of the Day for season 2022 took place at Clifton Park, where Aberfeldie outlasted a valiant Maribyrnong Park, defeating the Lions 14 points.

Abers led at every change and pushed the margin out to as much as 37 points before the visitors made a late push and pegged the lead back.

Kyle Reimers and Zach Hislop were healthy contributors on the scoreboard for Aberfeldie, kicking three goals each, whilst it was Nick Prowse for the Lions who made the most of his opportunities booting four goals for the game, with three in the final term.

Inaccurate kicking and a strong Aberfeldie defence proved too much for the Lions, who struggled with entries inside 50. Daniel Thompson was especially brilliant in the air, cutting off multiple attempts in defence.

Sean Hetherington was also impressive in his first hit out with his new club, taking control of the midfield for the Lions, whilst Tom Baravi was his usual consistent self around the stoppages.

East Keilor secured the four points in its first game back in Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division, defeating Essendon Doutta Stars by 15 points.

It was a tale of two halves as inaccuracy from the Cougars and efficiency from Douttas saw Paul Barnard's side up by 19 points at the main break.

However, an eight goal to three second half had the Cougars purring, taking home the 'W' at a packed Overland Reserve.

Victor Micallef picked up from where he left last season in a best-on-ground performance, with Charles Van Der Byl doing the damage on the scoreboard kicking three goals.

Karl Brown was the standout for Douttas, slotting four majors in the defeat.

After a goalless third term, the pies managed to pull through with another six goals to defeat the Sharks by seven points.

Roxburgh Park managed nine goal scorers for the afternoon, with Jay Barbera leading the way with four goals.

On a day where accuracy was hard to come by across the EDFL, the Magpies managed 15 goals from 18 scoring shots.

For the Sharks, new recruit Josh Covelli dominated up forward kicking a bag of seven goals, but it wasn’t enough as Roxy took home the 15.9.93-13.8.86 victory.

Heath McKerchar was tremendous for Hadfield, booting three goals, whilst Andrew Budge and Connor Ahern contributed with two each.

The Devils managed to post six individual goal kickers, with returning great Robbie Castello hitting the scoreboard alongside the likes of James Mifsud and Damien Cavka.

JETS SOAR PAST PANTHERS

Greenvale have posted a brilliant win against Pascoe Vale to kickstart their 2022 campaign, taking care of the Panthers by seven goals at Raeburn Reserve.

The girls from Section Road dominated the first half and ensured that Pascoe Vale didn’t register a single score. From there, it was smooth sailing as the Jets sealed the 9.9.63-3.3.21 win.

Haylea Cooke was the standout for the visitors, booting four goals for the game, whilst Amy Hakim and Alisa Magri chipped in with two goals each.

Marilyn Elder (2 goals) and Phoebe Roach (1 goal) hit the scoreboard for the Panthers, but it wasn’t enough to kickstart a comeback in the second half.

A challenging task ahead, Greenvale will host Strathmore who also picked up a massive 75 point win over the Sunbury Lions, whilst Pascoe Vale travel to Buckley Park and will look to bounce back as they face Essendon Doutta Stars.
