Strathmore Community Bank Men's Weekend Outlook - Round 6

By Adam Russell

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? We might find out at Section Road this weekend.

Matthew Horne's Strathmore travels to Greenvale for one of the great contests this weekend.

We're all aware of how dangerous Strathmore is on the attack, with an average of 144.6 points scored a week, the likes of Athan Tsialtas and Kyle Weightman are hard players to stop inside the forward arc.

However, Greenvale is a team that has prided itself on its defence so far this year.

The Jets have the third best defensive record in the competition, with Darren Bewick's team conceding more than 63 points just once this season.

It makes the prospect of this match a tactical delight for the footy fanatic.

The broadcast van is heading to Canning Reserve for the Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day on Saturday.

Avondale Heights has been one of the surprise packets of this season and should go in favourite against Glenroy.

The Heights have managed several good wins, including the upset of Keilor a fortnight ago and a convincing 129-point demolition of Craigieburn last week.

Tom Russell has looked a player in the ruck this year and took his talents to the forward line last week, snagging five goals.

For Glenroy, it has been a season of so close, but so far.

A heart-breaking round one loss to Maribyrnong Park was followed by a good win at Essendon Doutta Stars.

Since then it's been a tough run of losses against some of the division's strongest teams; Strathmore, Greenvale and Pascoe Vale.

The Roys may be sweating on the return of Aaron Kite if they are to be a chance here.

Catch all the action from 2pm Saturday thanks to Cluch TV and 98.9 North West FM.

Keilor hosts Maribyrnong Park at Joe Brown Oval in what should be a good game.

The Blues were seemingly back on track last week with their win over Aberfeldie but Mick McGuane's team is still far from full strength.

Patrick Veszpremi will need to pass a fitness test after suffering a lower leg injury while Nick O'Kearney's strong start to the season may well be rewarded with another VFL call up.

As for Marby, they'll be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Strathmore.

The Lions are currently stuck at the bottom of a 3-2 logjam on the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division ladder and will need to at least remain competitive in this game to keep in touch with the top four.

Pascoe Vale and Aberfeldie will be looking to break out of that logjam this weekend when they face the lowly Essendon Doutta Stars and Craigieburn respectively.

In Strathmore Community Bank Division One, Airport West welcomes East Keilor in an intriguing battle of premiership contenders.

While the Eagles are yet to take a big scalp in the division so far, they've proven their best football can match it with the best teams in the competition.

Trent Rogers' challenge will be getting his side playing that football consistently over four quarters.

That will be no easy feat against the Cougars, who are packed full of star power across all aspects of the field.

A forward line consisting of Dion Hill is enough to scare any defender, especially when Chris Stewart is now feeding the East Keilor midfield for first use of the footy.

West Coburg hosts Westmeadows in a similarly interesting match-up.

No one has come close to Dale May's West Coburg in recent weeks, as his side continues to tick off big wins against lower opposition.

Coming off the surprise loss to Hillside last week, Westmeadows will need to come out early and set the tone in this game with the Burgers proving to be strong starters in matches.

It looks like the Tigers will be without skipper Robbie Castello though, with the reigning Hutchinson Medallist suffering an injury at work during the week.

Rupertswood travels up to 'The Nest' to take on Roxburgh Park.

Despite a 1-4 start to the year, Rupo holds the best defensive record outside the top four in the division, sporting a percentage of 91.82.

The Magpies are hard to beat at home though, with Roxy winning its last five games at the venue against teams outside the top four.

Tullamarine will go in strong favourites against the struggling Taylors Lakes, while the winner of Hillside and Sunbury Kangaroos will breath a little bit easier when it comes to the prospect of relegation.

Moonee Valley has started the season superbly in Strathmore Community Bank Division Two and will take some stopping as the year progresses.

The Fog's impressive start is highlighted in the amount of depth Shanon Carroll has been able to accrue down at Ormond Park.

Valley's 5-0 record has been achieved without 2019 team of the year members Rocky Ferraro and Jordan Faba entering the playing field, while key players, Luke Ryan and Luke Egan, have also been unavailable throughout the year.

Their next challenger is Keilor Park.

The Devils are coming off a strong win last week against Hadfield and posses wicked pace and quick ball movement.

Daniel Mifsud was back for Paul Guicas' team and was amongst the goals, while the leadership Daylan Kempster provides each week is imperviable.

Speaking of Hadfield, the Hawks head to JP Fawkner Reserve to take Oak Park.

Kangaroo young gun Zac Taylor is putting together an outstanding season up forward and is one of the emerging players in Todd Clarke's side that compliments the division one talent they retained.

Burnside Heights and the Northern Saints will face off of Tenterfield Drive with a big four points on offer.

The Bears and the Saints are two of five sides in the division who currently sit on two wins and those last few spots in the top four look wide open.

Finally, Coburg Districts will head to Jacana looking for a big win.

The Districts sit eighth on the ladder and need to get going soon if they are to challenge in 2021.

Jacana will be looking for more little wins after they put up their highest score of the season last week.
