Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Saturday May 8th, 2021

By Tara Murray

A top of the table clash in Airport Toyota Women's - Division One headlines the first weekend of the split round in the Essendon District Football League women’s competition this week.

Moonee Valley has had little trouble in their first four matches with plenty of depth and spread of contributors.

Gisborne on the other hand has been pushed in a couple of occasions but have been able to come away with the win in those crunch moments.

Both have key goal kickers with Madeline Price and Natalie Dowdy stepping up for their respective teams in front of goal.

The winner here will find themselves as the early premiership favourite.

The other match in division one, has Pascoe Vale facing Strathmore. The Panthers have been one of the more up and down sides, so predicting what they will put out on the field is unknown.

Strathmore has been one of the big improvers this season and are shaping as a finals contender. They go into this game as favourites.

It’s also a split round in Airport Toyota Women's - Premier Division, with just two matches this weekend.

Maribyrnong Park and Keilor shapes up as an interesting contest.

Keilor is one of two undefeated teams. The Blues have done what they’ve needed to each week with their experience showing through.

The Lions are coming off their first loss of the season, but were right in the game until midway through the last quarter against a hot Westmeadows side.

Last week was the Lions first real test, this one is another one to see where they stack up against some of the top sides.

Airport Toyota Women's Division Two gets a shake up this week, with the Sunbury Kangaroos dropping down from division one and the Sunbury Lions moving up and replacing them.

The Kangaroos face Coburg Districts in the battle between the two club firsts teams. Can the Kangaroos finally click after coming down a division, or will Coburg Districts bounce back from a close loss the previous week?

The other two matches see the second sides face off. Moonee Valley sits comfortably in the top four and should account for Maribyrnong Park.

Westmeadows, which now sits atop the ladder, faces Burnside Heights which is yet to win a match.
