Strathmore Community Bank Men's Weekend Outlook - Round 3

By Adam Russell

ALL eyes will be on Leo Dineen Reserve come Saturday as two Strathmore Community Bank Division One heavyweights go head-to-head.

Tullamarine will host East Keilor in a replay of 2019's hotly contested preliminary final.

The Cougars are off to a flyer in season 2021 with two convincing wins so far but this Demons side will be their biggest test yet.

Dion Hill headlines a potent East Keilor attack that leads the division for points scored.

Tim Bongetti and swing-man Charles Van Der Byl have complimented the dynamic Hill up forward proving the Cougars have plenty of avenues to goal.

While Dave Connell's side has some proven goal kickers itself, it may be the work of his midfield group that gives Tullamarine the upper hand.

Gun midfielder Steve Vocale has hit the ground running this season, coming off a five-goal game, he is sure to give Pat Christofi a couple of headaches.

Tune into Cluch TV or 98.9 North West FM from 2pm Saturday to see how this one plays out.

A local rivalry is set to ignite under lights as Sunbury Kangaroos take on newcomers Rupertswood.

Battle lines will be drawn as the two clubs fight for what will be a crucial four points.

The Kangaroos got their first taste of victory in Strathmore Community Bank Division One last week with a side that featured just six players from their 2019 premiership team.

As for Rupo, they'll want to start turning their honourable losses into wins and what better way to do it than against a big rival.

Roxburgh Park will be looking to return to winning ways at home when they welcome a struggling Taylors Lakes to Lakeside Oval.

Meanwhile West Coburg's explementary record at Shore Reserve will be tested by Hillside.

It sets up a massive marquee fixture on Sunday, as Westmeadows hosts Airport West at 5pm on Anzac Day.

Both sides are just teetering at the moment and the twilight fixture will be the perfect chance to make a statement.

Robbie Castello was at his vintage best on the weekend with seven goals in a best-on-ground performance.

The Westmeadows veteran is still one of the division's best players and will relish the opportunity to perform on the big stage.

The NXP EDFL Match of the Day crew will be there to capture all the action thanks to Cluch TV and 98.9 North West FM.

Elsewhere on Anzac Day, Glenroy will be preparing for one of their biggest days on the home-and-away calendar.

The Roys play host to Strathmore in a game that Ross Terranova's men usually bring the heat for.

Stalwart forward Aaron Kite sits equal second on the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division goal kicking ladder and has provided a strong focal point to a much more potent Glenroy forward line this season.

They'll face their biggest challenge yet though against a Strathmore side hungry to prove their placing in this division.

Craigieburn was Matt Horne's victim last week, Glenroy may well be the victim of intent come Sunday.

Speaking of Craigieburn, they're back at home and will face a Greenvale team desperate to get their first 'W' of the year.

The Jets have surprised many with two close losses against Premier Division powerhouses despite missing a number of key personal.

But for the ninth placed Jets, close losses are not going to be good enough and they'll be looking to inflict some pain on the Eagles.

Essendon Doutta Stars and Maribyrnong Park have both had fluctuating starts to the season.

The match-up at Nipper Jordan Oval could provide some insight to where both these teams really stand in season 2021.

The winner might well be considered a sneaky chance to play finals, while the loser may be condemned to the lower half of the ladder this year.

At Joe Brown Oval, Keilor will be looking to make it 23 straight wins against Pascoe Vale, while Aberfeldie's modest start of the season will be tested by an improved Avondale Heights.

In Strathmore Community Bank Division 2, Burnside Heights and Coburg Districts are under the pump with both sides starting their campaigns at 0-2.

Each team has shown signs throughout the early stages of 2021 but are yet to put together a four-quarter performance.

The winner here might finally feel like their season is back on track.

Keilor Park's rollercoaster start to the year will face a massive test against the undefeated Oak Park.

The Kangaroos are yet to put a foot wrong in their new division with two high-scoring drubbings to start the year.

Todd Clark's side has proven to be an offensive powerhouse resulting in the Roos holding the first seven spots on the division's goal kicking ladder.

On the back of a spirited win last Saturday against Hadfield, the Northern Saints will be up-and-about when they head to Ormond Park on Saturday.

Moonee Valley have put together two clinical performances to start the year but if they aren't careful, the Saints can be a dangerous side when the momentum swings their way.

Finally, Jacana return against East Sunbury after the Jags sat out last week with the bye.

The Thunder will head in comfortable favourites for this one but a few handy inclusions for Jacana will hopefully result in a more competitive effort from Glenn McIntyre's side.
