Kyle Boots Seven In ANZAC Day Win

THE ‘Kyle Reimers Show’ is back in town.

The former Essendon ace is the second leading goal kicker of Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division after booting seven goals in Aberfeldie’s 59-point ANZAC Day win over Avondale Heights at Canning Street.

The premiers kept the Heights at arm’s length from the get-go as Reimers combined with Jayden Foster (five goals) to help topple Donald McDonald’s young side and move to the top of the ladder at 3-0.

While Reimers, who missed most of 2018, was named best-on-ground, gun defender Ryan Allan was solid down back alongside skipper Luke Davis and new midfielder, Jaryd Cachia.

For Avondale Heights, Hisham Kerbatieh continued his strong start for his new club with three goals alongside Scott Harding.

The Heights sit in eighth place at 1-2.

Tigers Cruise By Roos On ANZAC Stage

IN the other big result to come out of ANZAC Day, Westmeadows moved into the Division 1 top four with a well-fought 78-point win at Oak Park.

Star forward Omar Saad earned The Meadows Greyhounds Best-On-Ground honours on EDFL Match of the Day for his seven-goal haul as the Tigers broke away from the Kangaroos after halftime in good conditions at JP Fawkner Reserve.

Oak Park was within touching distance at just 14 points at the main break but couldn’t keep up with the Tigers the longer the game went, conceding 13 goals to five in the second half.

Their fade-out echoed that of Round 1, where the Roos conceded 14 goals to four in a very similar fashion against Hillside.

In the absence of skipper Robbie Castello and spearhead Mitch Church, Westmeadows was well-led by stand-in captain Marwan Abdul-Wahed (pictured), tall Cody Wight and young rebounding defender, Aaron Evans.

Michael Dalrymple was Oak Park’s best.

The Kangaroos will be hoping to collect their first win of 2019 this weekend away to an also winless Roxburgh Park outfit.

Blues Outlast Panthers In Thriller

On Saturday the pick of the games was at Joe Brown Oval, where a late Jamie Papalia goal sealed a thrilling four-point win for Keilor over Pascoe Vale.

The game remained tight for the duration as Keilor slowly wrested control over the Panthers with a four-goal-to-two third quarter to lead by 14 at the final change.

But Digby Morrell’s men steadied in the last with four goals of their own to gain the lead late, only to allow Papalia to take it away in the dying stages.

Matthew Clark and Dean Galea both finished with three goals and skipper Kane Barbuto was best-on-ground, but the win was marred by injuries to luckless prime mover Nick O’Kearney and ruckman, Brock McGregor.

For the Panthers, spearhead Matthew Watson booted three and Michael Ross was named their best.

Saints Win Shoot-Out Over Fog

The fans at Charles Mutton Reserve would have been hoping for a high-scoring thriller and on Saturday, they got that and more between the Northern Saints and Moonee Valley.

Both and Saints and Fog didn’t hold back in what was the game of the day in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 and the end result was a tight, but free-flowing affair.

The margin was within a kick at every change as both sides traded blows throughout the day.

By three-quarter time the Saints led by four points after a total of 25 goals had been scored to that point.

After the final quarter, that number rose to 36.

In a frenzied final term, the Saints managed to hold off a fast-finishing Moonee Valley side by kicking six goals to five and thanks to their accuracy in front of goal throughout the day, the hosts were able to walk away with the second win of their year by just seven points.

Both Jalen Oakley and Zakaria Farah proved just how dangerous Brett Kennerley’s new forward line can be by kicking four goals each, while midfield stars Matthew Gray, Tamer Abdallah, Mo Taleb and Eliot Kako all stood up when it mattered.

In his first game against his old side, Rocky Ferraro was outstanding for the Fog with 11 goals and was well-supported by Corey Martin, Braden Padmore and Cory McGrath.

The Northern Saints sit fourth on the ladder at 2-1, while the Valley remains winless at 0-2 in seventh spot.

Women’s Premier Contenders Make Statements

BOTH Burnside Heights and Aberfeldie have established themselves as the early pacesetters in EDFL Women’s - Premier after scoring solid wins over the weekend.

The Bears are on top of the ladder with Brooke McKinley and Kayla Ravanello both topping the goal kicking leaderboard after making light work of Craigieburn at DS Aitken Reserve on Saturday.

McKinley booted five goals and Maddison Cooper chipped in with three as the Bears managed to reach 14.8-92 before the game came to an early end at halftime.

Craigieburn’s lone behind in the first quarter was the first score of any kind the Bears have conceded so far this season.

On the previous night, Aberfeldie also managed to keep Westmeadows to a single behind as they cruised their way to a 78-point win at Willowbrook Reserve.

Former Panther spearhead Siobhan Carlton kicked her first three goals in two shades of blue while fellow 2018 Team of the Year member, Alicia Reivers, booted two.
