AVONDALE HEIGHTS 7.4-46 def. by GREENVALE 20.15-135
GREENVALE added another win to the board in Round 16 as they comfortably beat Avondale Heights, making it 14 wins for the season thus far as they sit atop the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division ladder.
The Heights were no match for Greenvale as they went down by 89 points, with the Jets edging the step closer to the minor premiership.
Patrick Rose was watched closely by Greenvale as he only kicked two goals for the day, resulting in the Heights having to find a different avenue to goal through Angus Durnan and Scott Clouston, who both had two goals each as well.
Brett Stillman was the Jet’s best with one goal to his name for the day.
Avondale Heights also lost the first quarter, something that has been rare all year.
ABERFELDIE 13.20-98 def. STRATHMORE 7.12-54
Aberfeldie finally put a stop to Strathmore’s hot streak with a strong win at Clifton Park, handing them their first loss in six weeks.
A few big names were missing from the Strathmore outfit and it seemed to show as they went down by six goals.
The young players yet again proved to be a dangerous utility for Aberfeldie with James Peters slotting three goals, while Jack Binns snagged one.
Luke Blackwell was dominant around the ground with his good use of skills and composure with the football.
Todd Grima was on fire until he unfortunately went down with an injury, with two goals to his name and a feature in the bests.
Josh Helliwell was Strathmore’s stand-out for the day.
Aberfeldie are comfortably sitting second and will get the double chance, making them even more dangerous come this finals series.
KEILOR 15.16-106 def. PASCOE VALE 11.10-76
In what was a close game all day at Keilor Reserve, Pascoe Vale just could not find that extra spark to get them over the line, as Keilor took home the four points.
With only two points in the game at half time, it was anyone’s to win, however Keilor were able to keep themselves in front, answering every Pascoe Vale goal with their own.
Josh Cauchi was too quick for the Keilor defenders, kicking three goals for the day, while teammate Dean Soncin put his name in the bests for the 12th time this year, dominating around the ground as well as in front of goal.
However, Jason Williams and Andrew Browne led from the front to get Keilor a strong win.
ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS 17.22-124 def. WEST COBURG 10.4-64
Essendon Doutta Stars picked up their sixth win for the season on the weekend as they beat West Coburg by 60 points.
Jedd Clothier was good again with four goals for the Stars.
After kicking four goals last week West Coburg should have known they would use him as an avenue to goal and so they did, taking full advantage of the strong forward.
Jack Landt was their best.
Jack Yelland was best-on for West Coburg as he has featured in the best the last two rounds.
The Stars definitely have the potential to go far in 2018 if they can keep their full squad for the whole season.
CRAIGIEBURN 7.3-45 def. by MARIBYRNONG PARK 29.20-194
Maribyrnong Park got a big win in Round 16 as they beat Craigieburn by 149 points.
The win puts Maribyrnong Park ahead of Strathmore on the ladder by percentage, moving them to third.
Dominic Micallef tried to keep his team in the game and put up a strong fight as he earned himself best-on-ground, however it just wasn’t enough to get his team their first win for the season.
Jock Cornell ran riot, kicking seven goals and marking his place at DS Aitken Reserve.
However, the seven goals weren't enough, with a great performance from Cameron Lee.
The Lions definitely look ready for a finals campaign.
