PASCOE VALE 10.13-73 def.by ABERFELDIE 18.9-117
CLOSER than expected some would think as Pascoe Vale took it up to second-on-the-ladder Aberfeldie on the weekend.
Pascoe Vale burst out of the blocks from the first bounce and took Aberfeldie off guard.
The Gorillas looked to be in trouble as they went in 33 points down at quarter time.
However, Aberfeldie skipper Josh Cubillo led by example with a best-on performance as he helped his team get back in front and control of the game.
Aberfeldie had a 10-goal second quarter and the game was back on their terms, doing what they needed to do to get the four points.
Kyle Hardingham was strong for Pascoe Vale while Michael Ross, Jacob Polizzi and Damien Petrone were all multiple goal kickers.
GREENVALE 25.12-162 def. KEILOR 12.6-78
Four changes to the Keilor side for Round 15 didn’t seem to help them as they went to Section Road on the weekend to take on the top-of-the-table Jets.
The Greenvale outfit was simply too strong for another competitor of Strathmore Community Bank Division as they defeated the Blues by 84 points.
The loss to Keilor now bridges the gap between themselves and fourth spot by three games, which mean they will most likely miss finals, a rare sight in the Premier Division after some strong recent seasons.
One positive however to come out of Keilor this season is the dominant year from forward Dean Galea, who sits on 61 goals, 12 ahead of Addam Maric.
But Greenvale will definitely go into their finals campaign with their tails up.
WEST COBURG 17.19-121 def. CRAIGIEBURN 5.9-39
With a long season coming to an end, Craigieburn will most likely be happy to refresh and start again as their 2017 season hasn’t gone to plan.
West Coburg handed the visitors their 15th loss straight for the season at Coburg City Oval, with a 12-goal win on the weekend.
The home side started well and controlled the game by staying in possession and running well.
Their main avenue to goal was Danko Bzenic, who snagged seven goals.
Yet despite being EDFL Match of the Day’s RAWFORM Seamless Compression Player of the Day, it was teammate Harrison Tanner who took best-on honours in the bests.
Jeremy Page was the standout for Craigieburn along with the help of Jake Piggott.
Both sides will look towards a strong pre-season.
STRATHMORE 15.14-104 def. ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS 11.11-77
With plenty of opportunity given to some young players at Strathmore on the weekend, there’s definitely a lot to look forward to for the future of the club.
Four Under 19.5s took the stage at Lebanon Reserve as Strathmore took on Essendon Doutta Stars in what is always a great rivalry.
With all four already looking quite comfortable in the squad, they aided their side to a 27-point victory.
Strathmore got on top early, and gave Essendon Doutta Stars not much room to breathe as the visitors only had one goal to their name by the final break.
However, a late surge in the last quarter saw them kick 10 goals to Strathmore’s one, though it was far too late.
Xavier Allison was good for Strathmore while Jedd Clothier gave Strathmore’s backline some trouble as he kicked four goals.
MARIBYRNONG PARK 13.24-102 AVONDALE HEIGHTS 9.14-68
With Keilor biting at their heels only a few weeks ago, Maribyrnong Park had to stay composed to ensure they didn’t lose fourth spot.
Putting two consecutive wins on the board showed their resilience and made sure they didn’t leave anything up to chance.
Avondale Heights still managed to win the first quarter, as they have done so all year, however weren’t able to continue on the front foot.
A six-goal-to-one second quarter saw Maribyrnong Park take back the lead and run out the rest of the game to win by 34 points.
Connor Maher was the Lions’ standout while Mathew Cravino played well for Avondale Heights.
