Round 16 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By JACOB MANZIE

EAST KEILOR v TULLAMARINE

IN what has been an up and down season for East Keilor - where they haven’t quiet been able to come up against the best - they have still had a reasonable year as they sit sixth with five wins and eight losses.

However this will be a big challenge, coming up against a very strong Tullamarine side who haven’t done all that much wrong.

It will put the Cougars to the test.

Tullamarine sits a game ahead of Hillside and would love to stay there to earn their double chance in the finals - a win this week will pretty much cement that.

In their last outing Tullamarine got the jump early and were able to stay in control for four quarters, not allowing East Keilor back in.

East Keilor will be sure to come out firing so that history doesn’t repeat itself here.

GLENROY v AIRPORT WEST

In what is a huge game for Airport West’s season, they must try and cause an upset if they are any chance of making finals.

Glenroy last week showed why they sit on top of the table with a dominant win over Hillside, so this is going to be tough for the Eagles at Sewell Reserve.

Glenroy took home the points in a strong win against the Eagles on the last occasion, so Airport West will be hunting redemption, as well as a top four spot.

Last time they met, Jayden Walker kept the Eagles backline busy.

With five goals to his name that day, he will be one they will watch closely.

If the young players like Jesse Eddy, Jack Formosa and Tyson Young can stand up along with their more experienced team mates, there is a chance of an upset for Airport West.

WESTMEADOWS v TAYLORS LAKES

Sitting fourth but not comfortably, Taylors Lakes need to continue to win to make sure they make finals.

With Airport West breathing down their necks, one wrong move and the top four could change again.

With three rounds to go, the Lions wouldn’t want to let finals slip.

Coming up against a good side in Westmeadows, there is every chance they might, though.

Although they sit eighth on the Essendon Ford Division 1 ladder, the Tigers have beaten some of the top sides this season, including both Hillside and Oak Park.

There is no doubt they will come out confident and ready to win.

OAK PARK v HADFIELD

Not the biggest game in the context of the season, as neither team will be able to make finals.

However, Hadfield are still yet to put a win on the board in 2017 and there is no doubt they will still be hungry for victory.

Oak Park won’t be the easiest of opponents.

Although the scoreboard doesn’t reflect the Kangaroos having the best season, they have come within arm’s length of taking the points home against some of the best sides in the competition.

Last time these two teams met Oak Park blew Hadfield out of the water down at Martin Reserve with a comfortable win.

After strong games from Jesse Hotchkin and Robert Ryan, Hadfield with have a close eye on them.
