HILLSIDE 4.11-35 def. by GLENROY 8.15-69

Game Details

A TOP-OF-THE-TABLE clash which would have left some people surprised as they left Shark Park on Saturday.

Glenroy reinforced why they sit on top of the Essendon Ford Division 1 ladder, beating Hillside by five goals.

Coming out of the blocks, Glenroy controlled the game and really didn’t allow Hillside to fight their way back.

With only one goal to half time, there was plenty of work to be done in the second half and the Sharks simply couldn’t get it done.

Last time the two met, Glenroy took home the points in what was a great game, a good sign ahead of finals.

Hillside will now know what areas they need to work on as they go into finals in a few weeks’ time, as they will most likely come up against Glenroy again.

That’ll be the one that counts.

AIRPORT WEST 9.14-68 def. WESTMEADOWS 8.7-55

Game Details

Airport West got the win they needed in order to keep them in finals contention.

Putting themselves in the driver’s seat from the first bounce on the weekend, Airport West blew the game out before the first break, kicking six goals to none to gain a 41-point lead.

Although Airport West came out firing, they didn’t take that form into the last three quarters, only kicking three goals for the rest of the game as Westmeadows clawed back within reach.

With an uphill battle at hand, Westmeadows’ performance to finish within 13 points of the Eagles was brave to say the least.

Tyson Young and Ronald Hackney featured in the bests for the home side, while Mitch Church kicked four goals for Westmeadows.

Airport West still have some ground to make up if they want to play finals though, as they still sit a game behind Taylors Lakes.

With a tough run home, they will need to perform.

TAYLORS LAKES 15.11-101 def. OAK PARK 6.19-55

Game Details

Taylors Lakes proved too strong on the weekend as they defeated Oak Park by close to 10 goals.

Rory Alexander led the way, kicking four goals and earning a best-on-ground nod, while Anthony Longo and Adrian Crawford were both dominant for the Lions as well.

Cameron Hare was Oak Park’s standout for the day.

Last time the two met it was a bit of a different story as Oak Park took home the points.

However, Taylors Lakes have been very strong lately, holding fourth spot on the ladder and managing to escape the grasp of Airport West by one game.

If they can continue this winning form and carry it into August, they could surprise the rest of the competition.

HADFIELD 5.4-34 def.by EAST KEILOR 24.11-155

Game Details

A dominant performance by Hadfield left East Keilor with no chance of grabbing their first win.

Controlling the game from the get-go, East Keilor didn’t give Hadfield a chance, blowing the lead out to 69 points going into the long break.

Brandon Smith played well for Hadfield with two goals to feature in the bests, while Jamie Liddle and James Barnes both had great games.

Hadfield haven’t been able to find that winning factor, and with not long to go in the 2017 season they may struggle to get their first win on the board.

They may need to begin their 2018 preparation.
