Round 13 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division

By JACOB MANZIE

MARIBYRNONG PARK v GREENVALE

MARIBYRNONG Park have dropped some of their good form in the last few weeks, and this week isn’t going to help them find it.

Greenvale have been the powerhouse of Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division this season, only losing two games so far.

They will be tough to beat come September.

Seeing as these two will meet in finals, this will be a good indication of how tight knit the top four is, or if there’s still work that needs to be done by the Lions.

With the whole competition gaining some fresh legs after the bye, it is certain that this game will be more fast-paced, skilled and thrilling than ever.

Especially down at Maribyrnong Park.

Like most weeks, Addam Maric will need to be watched closely by the Maribyrnong Park defenders after he kicked nine against West Coburg two weeks ago.

STRATHMORE v AVONDALE HEIGHTS – Radio Game

Strathmore have been impressive and they are finding some great form at the right time of the year.

However, a loss against Avondale Heights this weekend could put Keilor right back in the mix and right back on Strathmore’s heels.

Winning four out of their last five games, the Heights are definitely a chance of causing an upset, but may find the travel to Lebanon Reserve difficult.

The bye will help many injured players make themselves available for selection for both sides.

Strathmore haven’t really missed a beat lately, defeating Keilor two weeks ago, and Greenvale the week before that, so Avondale Heights will need to be on song if they want to match it with them.

ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS v PASCOE VALE

Two sides that are pretty much having the same season.

Both sides sit on equal points, sixth taking on seventh, five wins and seven losses… and it hasn’t gone exactly as both teams would have liked.

However, in saying that, it does mean that this will be a thriller that’ll come right down to the wire.

Pascoe Vale sit ahead on the ladder only by percentage and have showed good signs throughout the year.

The Panthers are just struggling against the better sides.

Beating Maribyrnong Park two weeks ago proved the ability Pascoe Vale has when it plays to its capacity.

Essendon Doutta Stars started the season very strong, but as everything came together, they lost some form and dropped off the pack.

This game will be one to watch.

ABERFELDIE v CRAIGIEBURN

With another impressive season for Aberfeldie, they shouldn’t have too much trouble here.

Craigieburn haven’t gotten what they wanted out of the season.

While knowing it would be tough coming up a division, they haven’t been able to grab a win yet.

However, they could cause the upset this weekend if the Gorillas choose to rest some players.

In saying that, the leadership throughout the senior squad should always be able to control these kinds of games, and not let it slip.

With only five games to go, this game could help Aberfeldie polish off their form.

In saying that, Craigieburn will be hunting that first win, and won’t go down easy.

WEST COBURG v KEILOR

West Coburg haven’t really been able to match it with the good sides in the competition this season.

However, with Keilor coming off a loss two weeks ago, West Coburg may be able to cause an upset.

Keilor's season has been up and down, as they just haven’t been able to stay in control of games against the top sides, which puts them in fifth spot - two games out of the four.

In order to get the points here, West Coburg will have to lock down on Keilor’s main avenue to goal, Dean Galea, who has kicked 49 goals and had an impressive season so far.

However, with a good running midfield, the bye may prove to come in handy for West Coburg, which could see them run and carry for four quarters and put the visitors to the sword.

If Keilor get on top early though, they should be able to stay in control.
