Devils Finally Wins As Contenders Pull Ahead

By LIAM McALLION

KEILOR PARK 18.13-121 def. BURNSIDE HEIGHTS 5.6-36

Match Details

THE bottom-of-the-ladder clash was one to remember for the home crowd down at Keilor Park Reserve as not only did their Devils record their first win for the season, but they did it in dominant fashion.

Getting the win last time, the Bears may have gotten ahead of themselves.

They were ultimately outplayed in the second half by a belief-filled Devils outfit seeking some revenge.

Keilor Park kicked an astonishing 12 goals to one in the second half and ran all over the Bears.

Josh Covelli again could not be faulted with three of the five Burnside Heights goals but with many others not bringing their best, the Devils were able to pile onto the scoreboard with a commanding 85-point win.

NORTHERN SAINTS 15.16-106 def. ROXBURGH PARK 9.7-61

Match Details

Two of the bigger-bodied teams of Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 were head-to-head to prove they can be in talks of the best come finals time.

A goal-for-goal first half resulted in a level game at half time.

The big inclusion of club captain and gun Harley Short after having a long period out lifted the Magpies, and his competitive nature helped them start the game and match the Saints all around the ground.

Tumay Hamza again did a bulk of the work using his pace across the turf and finished with three goals to his name.

Despite a lift from Roxburgh Park's most experienced campaigners, the consistency across the board that the Saints seem to provide each week was overpowering in the second half.

Mo Taleb is lifting each week for the Saints and building on his 39 goals with four again against the Magpies.

Taleb, along with many more experienced players, contrast well with such a young squad for the Saints.

Their evenness in ability helped them to a win of 45 points over the Magpies with a promising finals campaign ahead.

JACANA 16.11-107 def. MOONEE VALLEY 7.12-54

Match Details

Like many matchups over the weekend, the Fog wanted to prove they can keep up with the competition’s best and the Jags want to build on what has already been a memorable season.

With a first half of 10 goals to three for Jacana, the home crowd was boisterous and they were too powerful for the Fog to handle.

However Jacob Adkins again lifted and since his injury and has really come into some form, kicking four goals and providing a great presence on the ground.

Young players have lifted each week for the Fog but no one in the competition can stop the Jaguars’ ball movement and the brute force of Cameron Cloke - who again kicked a bag of six.

Still chasing the Lions on the ladder, the Jags will continue to build and get into some form to show how dominant they can be at the end of the year.

EAST SUNBURY 8.13-61 def. by COBURG DISTRICTS 12.4-76

Match Details

Coburg Districts are thriving at the top of the ladder and are just above a powerful Jacana outfit.

East Sunbury, although not usually in talks with these top teams, have improved each week and are becoming very competitive.

Lifts each week have come from different players for the Thunder and they are providing them platforms to win more games.

William Wright gained plenty of the ball this week, setting up countless forward entries and trying to help the Thunder into a sneaky finals spot.

Luke Vesnaver, however, shut down the vocal Rolling Meadows, crowd blasting four goals and adding to his impressive 40-goal season tally.

The Lions’ consistency and defensive structure helped the win by 15 points and stay in first position.
