February 25

Deer Park has secured itself one of the biggest signings of this transfer period, with 2016 Norm Smith medalist and Western Bulldogs premiership player, Jason Johannisen ready to join the Lions.

With an AFL career running from 2012 to 2025, Johannisen will become one of the Lions’ key assets in 2026 after starring for the Western Bulldogs in 212 games.

The half-back hopes to join Deer Park for six to eight games to ensure he has time to fulfill his development coach duties at Hawthorn.

Tullamarine is set to welcome Jake Long back to the club following his season spent at Anakie Football Club.

A former AFL player for Essendon, Long is no stranger to EDFL footy, having played the 2024 season with the Demons, earning a spot in the team of the year in the half back position.

Also a regular for St Mary’s (NTFL) and Cairns City Lions (AFL Cairns), Long is yet again set to be one to watch on the EDFL stage.

More young talent is set to make an appearance at Monk Oval, with Tasmanian Jessica Owen prepared to make the trip across the Bass Strait to join Maribyrnong Park.

Returning to Aberfeldie is Darby Scott who’ll be back in the EDFL following a year spent in Queensland on the Southport Sharks VFL list.

Scott suited up in two games for the Sharks in 2025 and spent the rest of the season playing footy for Broadbeach and Labrador in the QAFL.

Scott returns to the club where he made his senior EDFL debut on Anzac Day in 2024, with his first top flight goal sealing the win for Abers against Avondale Heights.

The Northern Saints made a splash with four transfers set to switch over to Charles Mutton Reserve, a move that’s set to add depth to the clubs’ playing list across different levels.

One of the movers, Shady Haddara, is a strong goal-kicking talent from the WFNL who’s set to be in the running to replace Saints’ former spearhead, Khoder Taleb.

Haddara has snagged 208 goals from his 166-game career, with 105 coming off his last two seasons of reserves football at the Wyndham Suns.

Ginnivan starred for Castlemaine before and during her time with the Borough, and will call Aberfeldie home in 2026 if the transfer goes through.

Glenroy young guns Jacob Albazi and James Nader are looking to cross to rivals Hadfield in 2026.

Albazi became a regular senior player in 2025 after debuting in 2024, playing 13 games and kicking 16 goals.

Strathmore has re-entered the transfers fold for its men's program with Frankston VFL's Seb Quirk the headliner with over 50 VFL games to his name.

Quirk has become one of the top midfielders at the level and has only featured in five local games in three years, so his re-signing with the Dolphins may mean we don't see much of him, but time will tell.

Tristan Borghouts will also head over to Strathmore from Old Carey where he has been a regular at senior level since moving from Canberra.

Throughout his time in the red and white, Taleb has been a key asset to the Roys, with his 2024 efforts seeing him excel the following year when he finished third in the league tally following a 13-game, 30-goal season, with 12 features in the best to boast as well.

Taleb also got a taste of senior level football last year with three games in the Saturday 2:15pm timeslot, including a four-goal outing in Round 11 and a semi final appearance to close things off.

He also featured in the reserves grand final and kicked two goals on the big stage to close a mammoth year.

Keilor is on the verge of welcoming two women’s players who’ll look to shake up the 2026 season, with Ruby Taranto and Stella Rose Lay eyeing off the club’s iconic red, white, and blue.

She featured in 76 juniors’ games across Sunbury and East Sunbury before starting her senior career with the Coburg Lions women’s team.

Taranto returns after a 14-game season with the Riddell Bombers in a season to remember. She slotted 28 goals, including her side’s only major in the decider, and was named in the league’s team of the year.

With extensive senior women’s experience, Lay will look to return to Keilor where she played 14 top-flight games.
