2023 Season Preview - Greenvale

#RoadToWindyHill

With the 2023 season just around the corner, EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One. Next, we chat to Greenvale coach Darren Bewick who provides some insights on their 2023 campaign.

2022: 7th (6W, 10L, 2D, 70.80%)

Coach: Darren Bewick (third season)

PRE-SEASON FOCUS

"Our first priority was off field, giving the playing list a chance to be the best player they can be each time they train and play. We have made some significant changes off field, including coaches and support staff, which I'm sure will help the players throughout the year.

"The fundamentals of the game has been a major focus for the playing group, going back to basics which would in turn enable us to execute a game plan that will make us better and a higher scoring team."

LIST SHAPE

"We have been really specific with our recruiting, getting players to the club for long term success, as well as addressing areas that can make us better this season. We have added more depth in all areas of the ground, which will create competition for places each week. All of our recruits have fitted in really well and I'm sure will be super players for us this year and beyond."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

"I am excited to see where our group can go this year. A number of players have impressed over pre-season led by the experienced players who have bought into what we want to do and how we can do it. Ryan Mills returns from a shoulder reco in 2021 and a knee reconstruction last pre-season. I hope he has a clear run at things and has a bit of luck with his body as he can be a key player for the team.

"Jason Kenneth, Corey Baker, and Jett Ladewig are three young players we've recruited this year who have shown a fair bit, which excites me. Our key signing last year, Cam Tudor, only played two games in 2022 so I'm keen to see him play a significant role this year. Judd Brewster from Glenroy also brings something different to our squad."

2023 OUTLOOK

"We have to make significant ground on the top teams from last year, so our aim is be hard to play against each week and give ourselves a chance to win games each weekend. We need to be more consistent throughout games as lapses during games last year proved costly. I know our best is going to make us competitive and as the year goes on, we will be better. I am putting no ceiling on this group and I am really excited about where we are and where we ultimately end up."

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

It will yet again be an intriguing watch down at Section Road as Darren Bewick's men (alongside Ross Terranova) will be looking to move back up the ladder following back-to-back seventh-placed finishes. While losing Jacob Thompson (44 goals) is no doubt tough, there's a large amount of talent coming into Greenvale like Judd Brewster, Trent Warren, Jason Kenneth, and Nick Stuhldreier who'll add strong depth to the overall playing squad, something the Jets were intent on adding to in order to complement their top-end talent. Their first three rounds should provide a good insight to how they'll be shaping up with East Keilor, Strathmore, and Pascoe Vale first up.
