The CEO's Perspective - Sockit2MND Round Edition

By CRAIG ARMSTEAD

EVERYBODY involved in Australian Rules football (and many with no connection to the sport) knows of Neale Daniher and the inspirational and courageous leadership he has shown in fundraising to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

A key initiative of the program is the Big Freeze which occurs every Queen’s Birthday Monday at the MCG prior to the Melbourne and Collingwood AFL match.

Last weekend was no exception where all 18 AFL coaches participated by sliding into a pool of icy water.

This year AFL football leagues across Victoria have worked with AFL Victoria to declare the June 16-17 weekend, Sockit2MND Round.

The EDFL and our clubs are delighted to be given the opportunity to be involved with this initiative and help raise much needed funding.

Our clubs are supporting Sockit2MND Round through purchasing and wearing blue socks and Big Freeze 4 Beanies.

This initiative is being supported through social media platforms Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, using the @fightmnd handle and #Sockit2MND and #FightMND hashtags.

FightMND is Australia’s leading Independent Motor Neurone Disease association, fighting to find a cure through fundraising initiatives such as the Big Freeze, Daniher’s Drive and now the Sockit2MND Round.

Since launching in 2014, FightMND has committed more than $23 million into research designed to take potential treatments from the science lab to the MND patient and to ultimately find a cure.

In addition, the organisation has invested $2.5 million into purchasing vital equipment to assist with the care of MND patients across Australia.

Fight MND and AFL Victoria have launched an online social media campaign called ‘Sock It From the Pocket’ which aims to raise awareness of MND throughout this dedicated state-wide Round.

As a supporter of this campaign, we encourage everybody to post your ‘Sock It From the Pocket’ goal kicking moment on social media throughout this Round and please remember to use the hashtag #SockItFromThePocket

For more information, to purchase a beanie or make a donation please head to fightmnd.org.au.

I will finish with a quote from the amazing leader of this Fight MND campaign Neale Daniher: “MND takes everything from you except your last great freedom; and that’s your right to choose your attitude.”

Good luck for the weekend.
