The CEO's Perspective - Saturday July 28th, 2018

By CRAIG ARMSTEAD

THE EDFL has partnered with Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation and nominated last weekend as Zaidee’s Round.

Clubs had the opportunity to purchase and wear Zaidee’s Rainbow shoelaces.

These colourful shoelaces are in memory of Zaidee, who died suddenly in December 2004 from a brain aneurism at the age of seven years and 22 days.

Zaidee was the only child under the age of 16 years to donate her organs and tissues in Victoria during 2004.

The foundation’s objective is to ask all family members to discuss becoming organ and tissue donors should they be in the same position as Zaidee was at the end of life, so you may save or improve another life.

It was fantastic to see many players supporting the cause by wearing the colourful shoe laces on match day.

To find out more about Zaidee’s story or to register please check the website zaidee.org.

This weekend our EDFL Women’s competition and all junior boys’ and girls’ competitions commence finals.

It is a very exciting time in their sporting lives and no doubt there will be special moments which become lifelong memories.

The EDFL Women’s Finals Series will make for interesting viewing with the final eight format providing genuine opportunity for teams who have shown improvement over the course of the inaugural EDFL Women’s season.

It is encouraging to see the mix of teams participating in the EDFL Women’s Finals Series.

There are clubs from all three divisions of our senior men’s competitions, plus two Sunbury-based teams who don’t have male teams playing in the EDFL.

The EDFL is thankful to our clubs for hosting our finals matches.

With such strong growth in the number of teams playing EDFL football, the number of finals matches and need for grounds continues to increase.

We are fortunate that we have very supportive clubs and local councils, and teams of volunteers who enable girls, boys, women and men to experience playing finals football.

I ask that all parents, supporters and team officials enjoy these special days.

The nature of competition makes these finals matches more emotional occasions.

Therefore, please be conscious of your behaviour and ensure that we all provide positive feedback and experiences for the children involved.

Good luck for the weekend.
