Semi Final Weekend Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By TARA MURRAY (Star Weekly)

SEMI FINAL 2 - AIRPORT WEST v TULLAMARINE - Radio Game

Saturday 2:15pm @ Greenvale Recreation Reserve

THE two best teams all season will fittingly play off for a grand final spot.

The Eagles and Demons have been above the pack for most of the season, with both sides able to find another level when needed.

They got a look at each other in the final round, but how much you can take from that game is questionable.

The Demons had 12 changes to their squad, with David Connell telling local media that the result was irrelevant.

The Eagles themselves also had a few changes.

They got the jump early with nine scoring shots to two in the first quarter and had a 32-point lead at quarter time.

That lead would be a match-winning one.

Bior Malual and Ryan Pretty kicked three goals each for their respective teams.

Luke Ryan was named best-on-ground for the Eagles, with Jack Burns again leading the way for the Demons.

The win though did hand the minor premiership to Airport West.

The Eagles have now won six of their last seven with a slip up against Hillside, which secured their finals spot.

The Demons have a similar record, with their only loss during that time being the one to the Eagles.

While there isn’t much to take out of last week’s game, the other match between the side’s back in Round 9 saw the Demons win by 70 points.

The Demons kicked 13 goals to three after quarter time.

SEMI FINAL 1 - HILLSIDE v CRAIGIEBURN - Radio Game

Sunday 2:15pm @ Windy Hill

For much of the season, it’s been a battle between three sides for the last two spots in the top two with Hillside and Craigieburn coming out on top.

The Sharks, who have got better as the season has gone along, enter the game on the back of a bye.

Injuries hurt them earlier in the year, but with closer to a full side the Sharks have found form.

Their win against Airport West, which really helped set up their season, is evident of that.

The Sharks, though, haven’t been able to beat Craigieburn.

The sides played back in Round 1 and then again in Round 10, with the Eagles getting comfortable wins both times.

One key for the Sharks is whether Brandon Coletta plays.

The Eagles have looked like a finals side for most of the season.

They made a statement in Round 1 that they meant business and have showed that all season.

They enter the finals on the back of a loss to Taylors Lakes, which ended up behind them only on percentage.

The Eagles had little to play for in the final round, but Dean Limbach kicked three goals, his highest return in a month, while Nicholas Watts was named their best.
