Round 3 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By TARA MURRAY (Star Weekly)

CRAIGIEBURN v JACANA

CRAIGIEBURN showed that Round 1 wasn’t going to be a one-off, with a strong win against East Keilor.

After kicking away in the final quarter in Round 1, the Eagles this week had to hold on against the fast-finishing Cougars.

Confidence is growing at the Eagles, with the team able to get the job done in two straight close matches.

The new players seem to be gelling early on, which should help them get a few more wins early in the season.

The Jaguars have had the week to stew on a disappointing Round 1 performance against Westmeadows, with the bye last round.

The Jaguars will be keen to show that they will be competitive in the higher division and expect a better performance from them.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Jason Cloke kick a few goals, after not kicking one in the opening round.

EAST KEILOR v AIRPORT WEST

Airport West blew out the cobwebs on Saturday with a solid win against Taylors Lakes.

With the Lions playing their third game of the season and the Eagles in game number one, it could quite easily have gone the other way.

After a slow start, the Eagles ran away with it.

Last year’s Hutchison Medal winner Tyson Young showed he will again be one of the players to watch this season, kicking 10 goals in a best-on-ground performance.

East Keilor surprisingly remains without a win after two rounds.

The Cougars were one of the big movers in the off-season, but it’s yet to show on the field.

Their new players are playing well, but can’t get the results, with only a last quarter comeback making their score against Craigieburn look reasonable.

A loss here would leave the Cougars 0-3 and many people re-considering them as a finals contender.
