Round 16 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By TARA MURRAY (Star Weekly)

EAST KEILOR v HILLSIDE

EAST Keilor will be looking to finish the year with some consistency after an up-and-down season.

After a strong middle part of the season, the Cougars have struggled against the top couple of sides in more recent times.

On Saturday, they were able to stick with Tullamarine for a half, before the Demons ran away with it.

Three Cougars, Matt Knight, Michael Galcin and Dion Hill, kicked two goals apiece while Chad Sir was named their best.

The Sharks are coming off their best win of the season, knocking off Airport West.

Having controlled the game in the first half, the Sharks finally showed it on the scoreboard in the second to run away with the win.

Jordan Sinclair and Mitch Church kicked three goals each, while Jeremy Hayes was named best with Joel Bonnici doing a good job on Tyson Young.

The result puts the Sharks’ finals hopes back in their own hands as long as they keep winning.

The Sharks would favour themselves against the Cougars, despite only getting over the line by three points last time.

Nearly at full strength, the Sharks are starting to hit form at the right time of the year.

AIRPORT WEST v OAK PARK

Airport West let slip an opportunity to seal a top two spot with three rounds remaining, with an upset loss to Hillside.

With the Sharks still fighting for a finals spot, they came out firing and were able to comprehensively beat the Eagles.

The Eagles kicked just three goals in the second half, one of their lowest tallies for the year.

Clayton Rogers was named the Eagles’ best in a performance that included three goals.

A win this week will seal the Eagles a top two spot and a double chance, but they can’t take the Kangaroos lightly.

The Kangaroos put in a strong performance for three quarters against Craigieburn, before the Eagles found another level.

Sam Anchen, Brad Cox and Travis Anderson kicked three goals each, with Nathan Sciberras named their best.

With their finals hopes now shot, the Kangaroos will be playing for pride and could cause an upset.

CRAIGIEBURN v WESTMEADOWS

This is a must-win match for the Eagles as they look to seal up a top four spot.

With Hillside sitting two points behind the Eagles and Taylors Lakes, they can’t afford a slip up.

On Saturday, they remained in the top four with a hard-fought win against Oak Park.

It took until the final quarter for the Eagles to break open the game with four goals to one.

Glenn Robertson kicked three goals for the Eagles, as Dean Limbach was again well-held.

Ryan Bongetti stood up strong when needed to help get the win.

They face a Westmeadows side that will come into the game fresh after having the bye.

The Tigers will be looking to end the season on a high, having struggled in the second part of the year.

Their hopes of pushing into the top four went down the drain a few weeks ago and they have lost their last four games.

JACANA v TULLAMARINE

In a round where no one in the top four plays each other, this match looks like the one that has the potential to be the biggest blowout.

It’s a case of top versus bottom, but both sides have plenty to play for.

For the Demons they need to keep winning to stay on top, with a top two spot all but secured.

They enter this match on the back of an 18.10-118 to 10.11-71 win against East Keilor.

The Cougars were able to stick with the Demons for a half, before they kicked away for an easy win.

Brad Allen and Ryan Pretty kicked three each for the Demons, with Dean Bartrop named best-on-ground.

For the Jaguars, they are playing for pride and hoping to get a win to finish off a disappointing season.

On Saturday against Taylors Lakes, they yet again showed glimpses of being able to match it with the top sides and were only outscored by two goals in the second half.

Bryce Kimuliatis kicked four goals for the Jaguars, while Bryce Mall and Billy Morrison kicked three each.

Morrison was named the Jaguars’ best.
