News Update - New Coach For Roos, Key Re-Signings Elsewhere

By Tara Murray

ADAM Potter remains the man for Aberfeldie with the club announcing he has signed on for another season.

Potter, who has led the club to five grand finals and three premierships in his time, has been a key player in making Abers one of the premier sides of the competition.

Abers were set for another strong year in 2020, having signed several of key recruits including VFL star ruckman, Nick Meese.

Expect them to be among the contenders again in 2021.

THE Blues have locked in two of their biggest names for next season.

Skipper Kane Barbuto (pictured), who won both the Reynolds Medal and Reg Rose Medal last season, is back on board for another year.

Key forward Dean Galea has also re-signed in another boost for the reigning premiers.

Jess Wallin, who missed last season’s premiership, is another player back on board.

THE Kangaroos have turned to a favourite son to lead them next year, with Leigh Sporle taking on the coaching reins.

Sporle, a life member at the club, has previously played in the EDFL and has coached Riddell District Football League side Rockbank twice.

He replaces Anthony Leydin, who stood down due to work and family commitments.

The Kangaroos’ hopes in Strathmore Community Bank Division 1 have received a boost, with several key members signing on for next year.

Skipper Daniel Gregory, Mitch Streiff, Matthew Leonard, John Corso, Jacob Opie, Lachie Kaye, Brenton Sutherland and Dwayne Tate are among the re-signings.

THE Bears have secured Jeff Stevens as women’s coach for another season.

Stevens coached the side in 2019 when, despite an injury riddled year, the Bears made it into the EDFL Women’s - Premier finals for a second successive season.

Having recruited well for this year and with a number of U18s expected to step up, the Bears have a strong base to continue having success with their women’s side.

The Bears have already announced the re-appointment of men’s coach Aidan Stott.
