EDFL Young Guns Ready To Shine

2017 U18 National Championships


THIRTEEN of the EDFL’s finest young players are set to don the Big V over the weekend with their sights set on catching the eye of AFL & AFLW clubs.

Vic Metro’s 2017 AFL U18 Championships campaign kicks off on Sunday at Domain Stadium against Western Australia and several EDFL juniors are expected to take part.

Essendon Doutta Stars' Noah Balta and Hillside's Cameron Rayner have both been named in Metro's squad along with Aberfeldie’s Jack Bytel and Mitch Podhajski.

Balta has been compared to Carlton youngster Patrick Cripps.

Senior 2016 Keilor premiership player Curtis Taylor (pictured) also made the cut along with Strathmore’s Rhylee West – son of Western Bulldogs great, Scott.

The EDFL will also be well-represented in the AFLW U18 Championships with seven girls named in the Vic Metro squad.

Dual-sport athlete Monique Conti was selected alongside Aberfeldie team mate Carla Rendelmann.

Pascoe Vale has two representatives with Sarah Dargan and Georgia Patrikios as does Keilor, with Lauren Carsuo and Eleanor Cornish also selected.

Sunbury Lions gun Madison Prespakis (pictured) rounds out the EDFL contingent in the squad.

Vic Metro will take on Vic Country at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.
