Sharks Too Good For Bears, Again

BURNSIDE Heights’ plight of avenging for last year’s grand final loss is over.

For the second week running, Hillside proved too good for the Bears in Saturday’s Elimination Final at Ormond Park, kicking five goals to two after quarter time to claim a 19-point win.

It was a tense, closely fought battle for much of the day, but the Sharks found a way to break clear with the help of a stellar four-goal performance from the in-form Ebony Wilkie.

Rachael Jackson and Annalise Wilkie also starred for Hillside in the club’s first ever EDFL Women’s finals appearance.

Captain Kayla Ravanello again led Burnside Heights from the front, finishing with two goals to end her stellar season with 33 majors.

Hillside will play the Sunbury Kangaroos in this Saturday’s knock-out Semi Final at Windy Hill.

Blues Overpower Roos In Qualifier

Brooke Todero, Lisa Kirby and Tanay Barbuto all kicked two goals while Erin Bult starred in a best-on-ground display as Keilor put the game on ice by three-quarter time with six unanswered goals.

The Kangaroos finally hit the scoreboard with five goals to two in the last, but the damage was already done.

Regina Said (two goals), Teaghan Tweedly (two) and Tylah Bell (one) were the goal kickers.

The winner of Keilor’s game against Aberfeldie, which is not ‘sudden death’, will earn direct passage through to the Grand Final on August 24 at Windy Hill.

Young Lions Prove Too Potent For Pies

MARIBYRNONG Park made better use of the scoring end at Leo Dineen Reserve to defeat Roxburgh Park in the Division 1 Elimination Final on Saturday.

The Lions didn’t register a score in the first quarter before clicking into gear in the second with three goals to establish a 16-point lead by half time.

Shelby Best kicked Roxburgh Park’s one and only goal in the third quarter as the Magpies again kept Maribyrnong Park scoreless, but the Lions saved their best for last with an impressive 4.4 in the final term.

Playing in only her second senior game, Under 18 Girls star Josie Andrighetti booted three goals in an impressive display for the Lions while Gabrielle Mahoney booted two to continue her good form from the home-and-away season.

Amy Horan was best-on-ground.

The Lions will now take on local rival Moonee Valley in this Saturday’s sudden death Semi Final at Windy Hill.

Fog No Match For German-Led Devils

ANOTHER outstanding seven-goal haul from Samantha German helped Keilor Park claim a stunning 65-point Qualifying Final win over Moonee Valley in Saturday’s second Division 1 final at Leo Dineen Reserve.

The Devils kicked the only goal of the first quarter before putting their foot on the gas in the second with four more majors to establish a 31-point buffer by half time.

The Fog never found a way back, ending the game goalless for the first time in its short history.

It was German’s second consecutive bag of seven, taking her to the top of the division’s goal kicking tally with 41 for the year.

The Devils will now take on Essendon Doutta Stars at Windy Hill this Saturday for a spot in the grand final on August 24, while Moonee Valley has to front up in the knock-out semi against a confident Maribyrnong Park outfit that defeated the Valley by 38 points back in Round 10.

Panthers Outlast Lions At Monk

PASCOE Vale returned to form with a solid 27-point win at Maribyrnong Park on Saturday.

It was a tight and entertaining contest at Monk Oval as some of the division’s best forwards went toe-to-toe inside the arcs.

James Breust was the main man in front of goal for Maribyrnong Park, kicking four goals alongside George Abboud and Jock Cornell, who kicked two apiece.

At the other end, the Panthers’ smaller forwards did most of the damage with Jordan Cellini (three goals) and Josh Cauchi (two) assisting the main focal point, Matthew Watson (two).

The margin stayed within a kick at each of the first three changes before the more experienced Panthers finally saw off the Lions in the last, kicking four goals to two to claim their eighth win of the season.

The Panthers remain third on the table and should be on-track to make the finals with a kind run home coming up in the final month of the home-and-away season.

The sixth-placed Lions are not out of finals contention but are well behind the eight-ball at 6-8.

Their run home is tougher, with games still to come against the division’s current top two, Keilor and Aberfeldie.

Burgers Squeak By Sharks

A MISSED shot on goal in the final minute robbed Hillside of a come-from-behind victory over West Coburg on EDFL Match of the Day on Saturday.

Both teams entered the Round 15 clash needing a win to keep their finals hopes intact and it was the visiting Burgers who established the early dominance at Shark Park, starting the game with five unanswered goals.

Hillside pegged the margin back to 13 points by half time, before Dale May’s men steadied in the third to lead by 26 points at three-quarter time.

Kicking to the scoring end in the last, Hillside mounted a stirring comeback and had a chance to snatch the lead late through Brandon Coletta, but the star forward missed from a tight angle and West Coburg managed to hold on for an important three-point win.

Liam Bowkett again starred up forward for the Burgers with four goals while Calder Cannons-listed youngster, Mohammed Abou-Eid, was the best player on the ground with a goal of his own.

Wearing the 0 jumper for the TAC Towards Zero Round, Jackson Baillon was the best Shark on the ground.

Both teams now sit three wins outside the top four and will be hoping for a late-season Westmeadows collapse in order to sneak into the final four.

Districts Finals Bound Again

THE Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 top four is now all but locked in after Coburg Districts took care of its business against the Northern Saints on Saturday.

The out-of-form Saints started well at Cole Reserve on Saturday and led by three points at quarter time, but from there the game was on Coburg Districts’ terms.

The Lions kept Northern to just one goal through the second and third quarters and piled on the damage at the other end, with 11 different players finding avenues to goal in what turned out to be a blowout 50-point win.

Arthur Lamaris ended up with three goals with Aaron Aquilina contributing two of his own.

The win guaranteed Coburg Districts its place in this year’s final series, while the Northern Saints would need a miracle to qualify with two weeks left in the home-and-away season.

The Saints’ only remaining game is against Keilor Park this week.

They will need to beat the Devils by roughly 300 points and have Burnside Heights lose both of its remaining games against lower-ranked sides East Sunbury and Hadfield in order to usurp the Bears in the final four.
