WFNL and EDFL Acknowledge AFL Victoria Approval of Parkside Football Club Transfer

Joint Statement

The Western Football Netball League (WFNL) and Essendon District Football League (EDFL) acknowledge AFL Victoria's approval of Parkside Football Club's transfer to the EDFL, effective from the 2027 season.

The decision follows AFL Victoria's Community Affiliate Regulations process and concludes a period of consultation involving all relevant stakeholders.

Parkside is a founding member of the former Footscray District Football League (FDFL), now known as the WFNL, and has been an integral part of football in Melbourne's west for more than 90 years. Throughout its long and proud history, the Club has developed deep community connections and made a significant contribution to the growth and development of the League and the broader game.

The WFNL thanks the Parkside Football Club for its contribution to the League and wishes the Club every success as it embarks on its next chapter with the EDFL and its Junior pathways. The transfer of Parkside Football Club reflects the Club's individual circumstances and strategic direction. Both Leagues recognise the importance of Clubs having clear pathways to support their long-term sustainability and growth.

Throughout the process, the WFNL and EDFL have worked collaboratively and respectfully to ensure the application was considered in accordance with AFL Victoria's established framework. Both Leagues remain committed to supporting the best interests of community football and providing strong, sustainable competitions for Clubs, participants, volunteers, and supporters.

The WFNL remains well-positioned for the future, underpinned by continued participation growth, increased investment in Club development and governance programs, and a strong commitment to supporting Member Clubs, volunteers, and participants across Melbourne's western region.

The EDFL looks forward to welcoming Parkside Football Club into its competition structure from 2027 and supporting the Club's continued development within its new environment.

Both Leagues acknowledge the professionalism shown by Parkside Football Club throughout the process and thank AFL Victoria for its oversight and management of the application.

The WFNL and EDFL remain committed to maintaining a positive working relationship and collaborating on matters that support the continued growth and sustainability of community football across metropolitan Melbourne.
