Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Top Four Almost Locked

By JACOB MANZIE

KEILOR 9.14-68 def. by MARIBYRNONG PARK 13.13-91

Game Details

MARIBYRNONG Park was able to steady the ship on the weekend with a strong win over Keilor at Joe Brown Oval.

Losing three out of their last five games, the Lions were beginning to show some cracks.

However, a strong win against Keilor proved why they are sitting in the top four.

A win for Keilor here would have put them right in the mix, but now they sit two games behind the finals spot and have plenty of ground to make up.

James Breust was impressive for the visitors.

With one goal and a best-on performance he definitely contributed to their strong win, while David Isbister had a strong game for Keilor.

With a few winnable games in the last four rounds of the 2017 season, the Lions are in a very good spot to finish the year off strong.

GREENVALE 14.15-99 def. PASCOE VALE 4.10-34

Game Details

With Pascoe Vale in good form prior to their game at Section Road on the weekend, there was a possibility of an upset for the Panthers.

However, the poise and experience of Greenvale proved too strong and didn’t allow the Panthers to get a sniff.

Nick Parthenopoulos took charge as he featured in Greenvale’s bests, while one of Pascoe Vale’s consistent performers, Dean Soncin, tried everything he could to keep his side in the game.

Pascoe Vale haven’t been able to match the division’s top team, losing last time the two met as well.

Greenvale is in winning form, as they have been all year, and they will definitely be fine tuning all areas with finals just around the corner.

ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS 8.10-58 def. by ABERFELDIE 13.9-87

Game Details

Essendon Doutta Stars were no match for Aberfeldie, with a late charge from the home side making up for their first three quarters.

However, it wasn’t enough.

Aberfeldie came out strong and continued it for three quarters, seeing them lead the Stars by more than 10 goals at the final break.

After Aberfeldie dropped off in the last and slowed down, Essendon Doutta Stars managed to make the result a little more respectable, kicking six goals and winning the final quarter.

Samuel Cattapan was the Gorrila’s best while Nathan Kazuro had another strong week.

Aberfeldie sit equal with Greenvale after a strong 2017 home-and-away season.

If they can continue this and take their form into finals, there is every chance they could make the big dance.

CRAIGIEBURN 8.10-58 def. by STRATHMORE 11.20-86

Game Details

In what was a very windy day out at D Aitken Reserve, Strathmore had a game on their hands at half time.

Craigieburn trailed by less than a goal at three-quarter time, as the conditions proved to be giving Strathmore some grief in front of goal.

Stefan Terzievski did all he could to keep his team in it while Nathan Perrone and Ben Fynch helped out.

However, Strathmore managed to keep their cool and finish off what was a strong last quarter performance.

Nick Lower kicked three goals and was best on, while Kyle Weightman kicked another two goals in his second game at senior level.

AVONDALE HEIGHTS 10.21-81 def. WEST COBURG 6.7-43

Game Details

Another strong first quarter for Avondale Heights saw them get the jump on West Coburg and stay in control.

Last time the two met it was a different story, going down to the wire to see West Coburg win by two points.

However, a strong performance from Charlie Natasi and Cameron Wood got them a good win at Canning Street.

They now sit on the same points as Pascoe Vale and could work their way up the ladder and finish off the season strongly.

Both teams will look at preparation for the 2018 season and what areas need to be addressed.
