A minute’s silence to kick proceedings off at Sewell Reserve had Glenroy fired up, as they applied immense early pressure on Sunbury.
Glenroy captain Renae Schwarze added to her long list of accolades by kicking the Roys’ first goal in the new competition.
Glenroy went into half time with a 12-point lead, but that didn’t last long, as the Lions flexed their muscles and showed their experience.

Pascoe Vale v Craigieburn
It was an emotional game for Craigieburn, who gave it their all at Hallam Reserve.
Co-captain, Samantha French was prolific in the ruck and led the way for the newly-formed Eagles side.
Breana Jenkins and Stevie Hart accounted for half the team’s score, booting three majors each.
Pascoe Vale had a strong side but unfortunately, just missed the polish on the day, despite Renae Berry’s two goals and Ashleigh Ford’s liveliness around the contest.
The Bombers actually led at half time by two points, but Craigieburn wrestled back the tight contest and secured their first victory in the new competition.

Keilor v Roxburgh Park
Keilor’s dominance on Sunday highlighted their favouritism to win the inaugural EDFL & WRFL Senior Women’s flag.
The Blues were relentless right from the start, kicking seven goals alone in the first quarter.
The signs only got more worrying for Roxburgh Park when Tanay Barbuto started asserting her dominance, ending up with four majors for the day.
Brooke Todero also had a day out with five goals.
The Magpies laid some impressive tackles, but none that helped them register a score, eventually succumbing to a 185-point loss in their first hit-out.

Tarneit v Glen Orden

Mereana Kelly registered three majors off her own boot and was complemented by the impressive ball work of Zoe Page-Ponga.
Lindsay Tucker also impressed with two goals for the day.
The Titans did get two majors on the board but were simply outplayed by the Hawks, despite the resilience shown by Lilian Thomas around the contest.
However, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Titans lost by 45 points in the end.
Final score: Tarneit 2.4.16 def. by Glen Orden 9.7.61
