Moonee Valley v Jacana
AFTER sheer dominance since Cameron Cloke’s signing for Jacana and with positive signs of growth and some wins on the board for Moonee Valley, both teams will be fired up in a match-up that could prove how these teams are really going.
Nothing can go past the impact that Cloke has already had in this division, averaging 10 goals and being all the talk.
Who can stop him?
The Jags’ bigger bodies might have needed the rest last week and it will help them have fresh legs to start the game, continuing their pace around the ground through the skill of Michael Evans.
The size and speed of some of the Fog's bigger bodies in Connor Ahern and Richard Potter will definitely help towards stopping the Jags’ forward half, and will create for solid counter attack play and run all day, which the Fog pride themselves on.
A fast-paced game out of defence and an open forward line for both teams will show on the scoreboard with plenty of majors and the similar styles of play will ultimately lead to an interesting finish.
Burnside Heights v Keilor Park
With both teams competitive, yet winless to start their 2017 campaigns, there is a lot of pride on the line here.
Both will be keen to show that their team deserves respect within the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 community and move off the bottom of the ladder.
Presence and ball-use through the big men will be most prevalent as Burnside Heights will use their strength in the air to capitalise on the scoreboard through Josh Covelli and Anthony Fawcus.
Keilor Park will use their height and speed around the ground through Ryland Head and Pete Corredig to outrun and counter the forward pressure of the Bears.
Both sides boast plenty of goal kickers and it could provide for a high-scoring affair.
Roxburgh Park v Northern Saints
Strength in hard contests, in the air and on the ground will be on display through the bigger bodies that both these teams have.
It should be a bruising, yet exciting standard of football as both these teams know how to use size to their advantage and ultimately kick big scores.
Wanting to improve their ladder position and show they are worthy to still be in the big team talk of the division, the Magpies will need their star players of Jack Elliot and Reece Tarczon to not only get plenty of the ball, but provide quality footy to teammates to be competitive against the Saints.
These bigger, yet more controlled players for the Magpies will contrast well with the fast, long-kicking and contested marking style that the Saints pride themselves on.
Through the determination shown in the way Matthew Gray goes about his tackling pressure and the powerhouse of Kelsey Clayton kicking goals, we’ll get a high-scoring, body-on-body affair.
Coburg Districts v East Sunbury
Coburg Districts will want to continue their unbeaten form in this clash against a young East Sunbury side who have started positively and are definitely going to go hard at the footy.
The Lions’ ability to blitz the opposition in the second half of each match is testament to their fitness and has resulted big percentage-boosters for them each week so far.
This run from start to finish from their midfield and half back line through Tom Lucin not only creates many Lions highlights, but complements Luke Vesnaver extremely well up forward.
He has had a massive start to the season with 14 goals.
Young East Sunbury guns in Tom Cree and Lachlan Brne are showing so far they are the Thunder’s x-factors, by using their fitness and elite quickness to punish opposition off the half back line, in the midfield and around goal.
This could catch the Lions off-guard as they have not yet come across this kind of opposition.
